Winter Car Care Tips
Wipers: Consider winter wiper blades
and Use cold weather washer fluid.
As a general rule, wiper blades should be
Replaced every six months.
In snowy conditions, there are a few things that you can look out for. Every vehicle is different, so know what to do when YOUR vehicle encounters ice. If there are cars swerving in front of you, do what you can to slow down and take an alternate route if possible. Also, when driving on the highway, or any road, leave double the amount of room in front of your vehicle as normal. Do not exceed the speed limit and stay in the far right hand lane. This will allow you to make the least amount of lane changes necessary to get where you’re going.
Rental Car
Did you just get in an accident? You’re probably going to need a rental car. But after an accident, that is the last thing on your mind. The first step is to call your insurance company. Once you’ve found a collision repair shop that will take your insurance claim, you hop in the tow truck and off you go. But once you get to the body shop, how do you get home? You can call a friend or relative, but then how will you get to work the next day? No worries—Car Struction has you covered. We offer an on-site rental car service to get you to where you need to go until we have your vehicle ready for pickup. We’ll be sure to get your vehicle back to factory condition in a timely fashion. Long before you get sick of that rental, or homesick for your own vehicle. When it’s time for pickup, just drive the rental car back and ride off into the sunset with your newly renewed vehicle.
Perform a Leak Test
Any car that is leaking fluids is generally a red flag for a needed repair. While you’re on a test drive, take a moment to park in a clean area on the road, and let the car run for at least 30 seconds. Then, move the car and do a visible inspection for any leaking substances. Black fluid might be an indicator of leaking oil, green fluid may indicate a leak in anti-freeze and pink fluid may indicate a leak in the transmission.
Safe Travel around Snowplows
1. Don’t crowd the plow. Snowplows plow far and wide - sometimes very wide.
The front plow extends several feet in front of the truck and may cross the
centerline and shoulders during plowing operations.
2. Don’t tailgate or stop too close behind snowplows. Snowplows are usually
spreading deicing materials from the back of the truck may need to stop or
take evasive action to avoid stranded vehicles. If you find yourself behind a
snowplow, stay behind it or use caution when passing. The road behind a
snowplow will be safer to drive on.
3. On multiple lane roads, watch for snowplows operating in either lane.
4. Snowplows can throw up a cloud of snow that can reduce your visibility to
zero in less time than you can react. Drive smart. Never drive into a snow
cloud - it could conceal a snowplow.
5. Snowplows travel much slower than posted speeds while removing snow and
ice from the roads. When you spot a plow, allow plenty of time to slow down.
6. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted. You may see them but they
may not see you
7. Plows turn and exit the road frequently. Give them plenty of room.
