This was one of the most difficult and meaningful projects I have ever been asked to do.

My friend, Saugus Fire Lieutenant Damian Drella, fought a courageous battle with occupational cancer. I am beyond grateful to his sons for trusting me and allowing me to be part of something so incredibly special.

I spent hours at the shop trying to figure out the best way to honor Damian and send our friend off in a way that would make him proud. In the end, there was nothing more fitting than transforming his casket into Saugus Engine 3—the fire truck he proudly served on as Lieutenant on group 3.

Damian was a firefighter’s firefighter. He was a true fire buff, a dedicated department fire photographer known as K-7, and known throughout Citywide as 251. He loved the fire service, the history, the trucks, the brotherhood, and everything that came with the job.

This was more than a wrap. It was my final tribute to a great friend and a great man who dedicated so much of his life to the fire service.

I hope we did you proud, Damian. It was truly an honor to do this for you and your family.
