We have a lot of great dogs at the kennel right now that would LOVE to hang out with you. But today, we're asking for help with two that are struggling with kennel life. Rocky and Goober are stressed at the kennel and would love a break from it.

Shirley’s journey began in heartbreak, but it wasn’t meant to end that way.

Shirley was abandoned in the parking lot of a baseball field alongside her sister, Laverne. After months of surviving the elements and predators in the remote area, rescue became even more urgent as Shirley was now pregnant and just days away from giving birth.

But weak from her life on the streets, and with puppies that were much too large to deliver, she was rushed to our veterinary hospital for an emergency C-section. Tragically, we lost every one of her puppies. We know we would have lost Shirley too if she hadn’t been rescued.

After everything she had endured, Shirley shut down. At the kennel, she was quiet and fearful, and it was difficult to see the sweet dog we knew was hiding underneath all that sadness.

Then, a foster home opened its doors, and Shirley finally began to feel safe.

Her true personality started to shine. She began greeting her foster parents with the sweetest little “woo woos,” carrying her favorite plushies around the house, and playing with the other dogs. The frightened girl who arrived at our kennel slowly became a happy, playful, affectionate dog.

Now, Shirley is headed north to our incredible rescue partner, buddydoghumane, where she will have the opportunity to find the family she has been waiting for.

Her fosters will miss her dearly, but they are so proud of how far she has come. They watched Shirley blossom, and they know just how special she is.

But they also know something beautiful: Shirley is going to make a family in Massachusetts incredibly happy.
