Common Cause in Wisconsin
Holding power accountable since 1970 (and in Wisconsin, since 1972)
05/17/2026
This weekend, Common Cause Wisconsin had the opportunity to join advocates, organizers, and democracy leaders from across the country at the All Roads Lead to the South convening in Montgomery and Selma, Alabama.
Walking through spaces that shaped the Voting Rights Movement was a powerful reminder that democracy is not guaranteed - it is protected by everyday people willing to organize, advocate, and stand together.
As we continue our work in Wisconsin, we carry forward the lessons, legacy, and responsibility of those who fought to ensure every voice could be heard and every vote could count.
The work continues.

Are you interested in becoming an election observer???
LWVWI is recruiting volunteers from across the state to serve as election observers for the April 7th Election. Volunteer election observers help ensure we have a fair election by watching for signs of voter disenfranchisement and intimidation, and by monitoring the way Wisconsin’s election laws and procedures are being applied.

Happy Presidents Day. 🇺🇸
Today, as we honor the office, we must remember this: in a democracy, power ultimately belongs to the People. 🇺🇲
Strong institutions.
Transparent government.
Free and fair elections.
Equal representation.
These are not partisan values - they are democratic ones. 🇺🇲
Common Cause Wisconsin remains committed to protecting the systems that ensure every eligible voter can participate and every vote is counted.

This weekend, Common Cause Wisconsin was proud to see State Director Bianca Shaw present to the 12th cohort of the Wisconsin Women’s Network Policy Institute on “From Coalition to Collective Power.”
Strong democracies are built through relationships, strategy, and shared leadership. Bringing people together to deepen their policy knowledge and expand their collective impact is exactly how lasting change happens.
We’re grateful to be in community with leaders who are shaping the future of Wisconsin.

We know how heavy democracy feels right now - but what gives Common Cause WI hope is this:
👍🏾 Every time community members show up.
👍🏾 Every time someone provides public testimony.
👍🏾 Every time a clerk goes above and beyond to make sure every vote is counted.
👍🏾 Every time partners collaborate vs compete.
There are more people committed to protecting democracy than the headlines would have you believe.
🇺🇲 And that matters.
Hope isn’t passive - it’s built through action.
We are grateful to be in this work alongside so many dedicated Wisconsinites. 💛
Be safe.
Stay well.

In the past 45 days, Common Cause Wisconsin has moved with focus and purpose to protect democracy and strengthen public trust.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
✔️ Dec 2025: We intervened in the U.S. Department of Justice case to help protect sensitive voter data from misuse or weaponization. We collaborated with the ACLU, Law Forward, and three Wisconsin voters. This work generated earned media coverage including WisPolitics, State Affairs, Radio Plus, and Newsbreak.
✔️ Feb 2026: State Director Bianca Shaw provided public testimony opposing Facial Recognition Technology in Milwaukee - standing alongside community partners and residents to raise civil liberties concerns and helping lead to the ban on MPD’s use of FRT.
✔️ Ongoing: We continue to collaborate with aligned stakeholders to advance Independent Redistricting Commission legislation, to keep fair maps moving forward.
This work is stronger when we do it together. What are you seeing in your community - and what do you want Common Cause Wisconsin to take on next? Drop your comments below 👇🏾
