Later this year I get to stand next to my best friend as her maid of honor, and recently I got to do one of the most fun parts of wedding planning with her… dress shopping.
We spent the day bouncing around Milwaukee bridal shops, sipping champagne, and watching her try on dress after dress. Honestly? The best time.
One thing I absolutely loved was that she didn’t just try on dresses that looked like her Pinterest board. She tried styles that were totally different from what she originally had in mind… and it was so fun to see.
In fact, the dress she loved most ended up being a completely different direction than what she thought she wanted.
If you’re dress shopping soon, take this as your sign to try something unexpected. You might surprise yourself.
But the thing that really stuck with me came from one of the bridal consultants when my friend was deciding between two dresses she loved.
She asked:
“Is this a style you would wear somewhere else?”
Meaning… could you see yourself wearing something like this to another wedding as a guest? A formal event? As a bridesmaid?
Or…
Is this something that feels truly special for your wedding day?
That question completely shifted the way we thought about it.
Because your dress doesn’t just need to be beautiful.
It should feel unique to the moment.
So when you’re deciding between dresses, ask yourself that one question.
