Autistic raver here. is a fundraiser for kids with autism. Idk if you knew. BUT MEANWHILE, the space is inaccessible to people with sensory issues (autistic people). Some artists insist upon using strobe lights on the crowd at 5000k color temperature. If people don’t know, strobe lights are an autistic persons sensory nightmare. Not just autistic people, but strobe lights also induce seizures in people. ON TOP OF THAT, electric forest organizers use a lighting system on the campground that is highly efficient. They operate the minimum number of light stacks throughout the campground to enable them to light the areas safely with the fewest lights possible, saving resources and time. UNFORTUNATELY, this capitalist money saving venture is HIGHLY ABLEIST, as it results in EXTREMELY high intensity lights pointing at thousands and thousands of festival goer’s eyes directly. This is the type of stimuli that will make an autistic person nauseous and vomit, even withou zero drugs. I will point out that electric forest is actually a fundraiser for children with autism, but yet they choose to create an environment that is completely unsafe and unwelcoming to autistic people. Do better. Spend money to make it not vomitous for us. Don’t let artists run strobe lights into people’s eyes, it’s LITERALLY antiquated anyway and yall don’t look up on the times when you do this in here fly ableist special effect.
