The Absolute Sound's Wayne Garcia recently reviewed the Audio Research S-200 Power Amplifier and LS-2 Preamplifier. https://tinyurl.com/y7dhxc6m He immediately recognized the performance they delivered at their more affordable prices and praised Audio Research for their efforts. He reported that the LS-2 is an all tube class A zero feedback design with a pair of 6H30 tubes. The front panel is simple with a display and two k***s. There are options for an internal DAC card and a Phono Stage and his came with both. The phono offers both MM and MC with loading options. The DAC card offers USB, optical, and coaxial inputs. The S-200 power amplifier delivers 200 wpc into 8 ohms and 400 wpc into 4 ohms. It is a class A/B design with a differential JFET input, large power supplies sporting toroidal transformers and is a dual mono design. He found the LS-2 to deliver warmth , breath, and nuance. The S-200 sailed through difficult dynamic and volume tests. In this video, John Darko of Darko Audio reviews the Bowers & Wilkins 804 D5 loudspeakers. https://tinyurl.com/puu9xpbp He starts by saying that they surprised him in three ways and he did not expect them to do this. He describes how the cabinets are made and some of its components and their placement. He listened with a wide variety of music. He streamed and listened to vinyl. He used the Marantz Model 10 to power the speakers and the Marantz Model SACD.10 for it's DAC and SACD capability. He notes that the 804 D5 is rated down to 20 Hz. He found them to have deep bass authority. # 1 he found it to have an ability to handle deep bass with good midrange response without smearing. # 2 came from the tweeter and its positioning on the speaker. It's unique mount is decoupled from the cabinet. He found it to deliver highs with refinement. The had micro dynamic snap revealing more than competitors. It had great soundstage. # 3 He found the midrange to be fantastic with supreme clarity.
