Lewis Empson of What Hi-Fi? had the opportunity to have a listening session with the new Paradigm Premier vV2 820F floorstanding loudspeaker while visiting Paradigm's factory in Canada. https://tinyurl.com/4r9pxytp He was there for a fascinating factory tour and discussion with key members of the Paradigm team. He found them to be sensibly styled with a look and feel more premium than their price tag. He saw them in both walnut and black-walnut finishes, and found them eye-catching.
Listening, he found them immediately to reveal a sense of space on recordings and found them listenable and enjoyable. He will be reviewing these soon in his own test space and he left Paradigm feeling quite positive. He explains that the studio started in 1931. He mentions that the studio has hosted many recordings including the Beatles and so many others along with movie soundtracks. Marta from Abbey Road discusses in the mixing room with the Bowers & Wilkins 801 D4 loudspeakers how the process of recordings are accomplished and the mixes to complete the recording process. They get to sample some of the tracks to hear what the engineers have on a track. Bowers & Wilkins has enjoyed a 50 year relationship with Abbey Road Studios. In examining the turntable he likes the motor isolation it has. He loved the Acrylic platter provided. He liked the aluminum / carbon fiber tone arm assembly. It comes with the Pro-Ject Connect-e turntable cable which he likes very much. He loved the tonearm cradle for storing the arm while not playing The included cartridge is an Ortofon Red moving coil. The turntable offers both single ended outputs and a balanced output. He notes the 3 finishes available, walnut, gloss black and gloss white. He tested it first as a single ended output device. He found it to sound real and delivered accurate sound. Testing with Balanced, he found it to improve with more information being revealed. He experimented with playing vinyl with and without the felt mat and found directly placing it on the acrylic platter, it improved. He loved the combination of the X2 B and the Pro-Ject balanced phono preamplifier.
