The general election is right around the corner, and this is a great resource to understand how the mail-in voting process works.

One of the major concerns I hear from constituents is the cost of housing. Folks in all stages of life are struggling to secure housing that suits their needs, whether they’re first-time homebuyers, renters, or homeowners trying to keep up with repairs.

This past session, I supported a package of housing bills that would create a housing assistance fund for first time homebuyers, establish a repair fund for property owners, increase the limit for the low-income housing tax credit program, and support local governments with proactive inspection programs. Unfortunately, Republicans blocked these bills from making it to the floor for a vote.

However, several pieces of housing legislation with bipartisan support were signed into law:

Act 67 - Updates and clarifies rules regarding the rental of plots and homes in mobile and manufactured home communities.

Act 68 - Changes how cities, towns, and counties handle new housing and neighborhood developments.

Act 69 - Requires real estate agents to publicly list homes within one day (unless sellers opt out), clearly disclose AI-enhanced property photos, and ensure any seller-paid buyer agent commissions are explicitly signed into the final purchase contract.

Act 235 - Allows municipalities to create residential tax incremental districts (TIDs) to fund housing infrastructure.

Although I’m glad we could deliver some bipartisan solutions, there is much more that needs to be done to address the root causes of Wisconsin's housing shortages. I am committed to continue finding solutions that meet our state’s housing needs.

Financial barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of a person’s access to quality healthcare. Unfortunately, too many people are forced to choose between paying for life-saving medications or necessities like groceries and rent. That’s not right.

That’s why some of the first bills I introduced this session focused on tackling the high cost of prescription drugs. This legislation would have capped the cost of insulin, streamlined the prescription drug importation process, established a drug repository program, and more. I also supported legislation that would require insurance to cover key fertility services.

While many of our bills didn’t make it to the floor for a vote due to the Republican majority, we did get some important bills passed this year. I was proud to fiercely advocate with and for Wisconsin women to deliver on two major bills: Gail’s Law and postpartum Medicaid expansion.

With Gail’s Law now in effect, Wisconsin women have greater access to breast cancer screenings and critical care. And since postpartum Medicaid expansion was signed into law, new moms are able to keep their health insurance for a full year, rather than 60 days after giving birth.

There’s so much more that can be done to lower healthcare costs in Wisconsin, and I won’t stop fighting to make quality care more affordable and accessible for everyone.

Twenty-five years ago today our nation was changed forever.

Today, we remember the lives lost and the heroic acts by first responders and everyday people. I am also reflecting on the ways people showed up for their neighbors and came together in the aftermath of this terrible tragedy.

I hope all of us can reflect on the American values of sacrifice, bravery, and unity on this important day.

Protecting Wisconsin’s environment and its resources has been a top priority of mine since day one. Our land, water, and air are worth fighting for, and that’s why I’ve advocated for conservation session after session.

I supported legislation that would have reauthorized the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, invested in lead service line replacements, strengthened funding for clean water, regulated and held data centers accountable, and so much more. Unfortunately, Legislative Republicans refused to pass substantive, workable bills on these issues.

It’s not all bad news. I was very proud to support legislation that released more than $130 million to clean up PFAS contamination and provide relief to communities across Wisconsin. This was a huge win for clean water!

I’ll keep fighting for Wisconsin’s environment and our right to enjoy it.

A very happy Labor Day!

Congratulations to my colleague Ben DeSchmidt on his recognition as Labor Person of the Year.

We have a lot of work to do to restore and strengthen the rights of working people in Wisconsin, but I believe we are up to the task.

Wisconsinites are face to face with rising costs. Folks are tired of not being able to afford their first home or their prescription drugs. That’s why I introduced the “Lowering Costs, Improving Lives” package this session to offer relief.

This package included bills that would provide free and healthy school meals to kids, help families save on groceries, lower prescription drug prices, and provide tax relief to renters and homeowners. Unfortunately, Legislative Republicans stood in the way and refused to give these bills a hearing, let alone a vote on the floor.

Rather than push forward legislation to cut costs, Republicans instead focused on school consolidation and making it harder for schools to get the resources they need. That’s a “no” for me.

Every Wisconsinite deserves to feel welcome and safe in their community regardless of their gender identity or sexuality. I know how much courage it can take to be your authentic self and will continue to advocate for my LGBT neighbors in Wisconsin.

At a time when Republicans are focused on attacking LGBT folks and fighting culture wars instead of focusing on real issues, we need leadership that prioritizes people over political games.
