Story Time: Setting a State Record in a Powerlifting Meet at 42 Years Old At 42 years, life isn’t supposed to stop. On my comeback journey, I recently competed in a USPA powerlifting meet. It was just a push/pull this time. By the ...
Late post from the other day. Worked my way up 93% x2. Moved a lot slower than anticipated, but the wheels were moving.
This past Saturday before the Crimson Tide kicked off, I competed in the USPA Southern Elite Classic. I originally wasn’t going to do it, but John Micka encouraged me to compete. So, I competed in benchpress-only due to my back not quite being 100% since my injury. By the grace of God, I set meet-comeback-personal record with 325.2lbs! I was awarded a medal for my efforts! Thank you to John for keeping me encouraged and Michael Petyak for the training & encouragement as well. Shout out also to Josh Smith for helping me during the meet!
I did some medium deadlift work this past weekend. My top set was 440lbs x1. I’m slowly building back after recovering from a back injury in July. To God be the glory!

So thankful right now to have reached another milestone. At my last 3 meets on my comeback journey, I’ve been stuck on 308lbs. On Christmas Eve, the plan was to work up to a weight I could lift for 2 reps, but for only a set of 1. At the Muddy Water Strength Garage Gym, I set a new comeback PR of 320lbs and had a lot more left in the tank! With this and the recent success on deadlift, it’s setting up to be the best meet for me come January 18th! Shout out to Michael Petyak for the help! To God be the glory!
By the grace of God, I achieved a milestone on my comeback journey. At my last United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) meet, I hit 440lbs. Here, at the famous Muddy Water Strength Garage Gym, I hit a PR of 460lbs! That’s a 20lb increase! To God be the glory! Shout out to Michael Petyak!

Late post from this past Sunday afternoon. Worked my way up to my top stet at 90% x2. Then, I dropped down for some speed reps at 76% for 4x2. Still working towards that goal! To be the glory!
