We are heartbroken.
The City of Madison has announced that 113 Canada geese were killed in city parks.
James Madison Park – 57
Vilas Park – 42
Brittingham Park – 14
Thank you again to those of you who already called and asked them not to.
These were living, feeling animals who had made our parks their home.
If you are disappointed , disgusted by this decision, please consider taking just a few minutes today to respectfully let the Madison Parks Department know.
Please keep your message calm and courteous. Polite voices are often the hardest to dismiss.

A simple message such as:
"I'm saddened and disappointed that 113 Canada geese were killed in Madison parks. I hope the City with a reputation of being progressive will pursue humane, non-lethal approaches to managing wildlife in the future."
Thank you for speaking up for our wild neighbors.

Time is running short for Madison's geese.
If you have been thinking about making a call, please do it soon.
There is a misconception that killing geese is the only way to manage conflicts between people and wildlife. It isn't.
Communities across the country have successfully used humane, nonlethal approaches such as habitat modification, egg addling, public education, and other long-term strategies to reduce conflicts without killing healthy animals.
Madison has expanded some nonlethal methods over the years, but lethal removal remains part of the plan. The time when these decisions are typically made is approaching quickly.
If you would like to see Madison move toward fully humane goose management, please respectfully contact the Madison Parks
Department and ask them not to kill the geese this year.

BREAKING: Ridglan Farms is closing. Supporters - As you know, for years, decades, countless advocates, rescuers, attorneys, organizations, donors, and regular people refused to look away.
Today, there is extraordinary news: Ridglan Farms is closing.
Hundreds of beagles still need safe places to land, and there is more work ahead as the remaining dogs transition to rescue organizations and loving homes. But for the first time (including in May when they released the first 1,500 dogs) in a very long time, there is real reason to celebrate.
Change like this doesn't happen because of one person. It happens because people keep showing up. They write letters. They protest. They volunteer. They donate. They educate others. They refuse to accept that suffering is simply "the way things are."
I have followed this issue closely for years, and today I am thinking especially of the dogs whose lives will now look very different than they otherwise would have.
To everyone who played a role—large or small—in bringing us to this moment: thank you.
And to the beagles leaving Ridglan Farms behind, may your future hold soft beds, long walks, kind hands, and the chance to be dogs.
Today, we celebrate.
Tomorrow, we keep going.

We rarely use , but this is urgent and timely. It appears that Ridglan Farms may be in the process of selling off the remaining 500 beagles to laboratories instead of allowing them the chance to finally go to loving homes.
Please take about 15 minutes to help speak up for these dogs. Their lives depend on people being willing to say something now.
This simple tool can be used to send emails to potential buyers asking them to choose compassion and not purchase these beagles: https://stopridglan.netlify.app/
A few years ago, Alliance for Animals spoke with Fox 47 about Madison’s goose management policies and the need for humane, nonlethal alternatives.
Unfortunately, this issue is still not resolved today.
While some nonlethal methods have expanded over the years, lethal removal remains part of a management plan that is now more than a decade old.
We believe Madison can do better for the geese who live in our parks and waterways.
Please help us encourage compassionate, nonlethal solutions.

Most Madison residents have no idea this still happens.
Each summer, the Madison Parks may round up and kill geese living in the park system using taxpayer-funded USDA Wildlife Services operations.
While some nonlethal methods have expanded over the years, lethal removal still remains part of a management plan that is now more than a decade old.
We believe it’s past time for Madison to fully embrace humane, nonlethal goose management.
If you would like to help, please respectfully contact the Madison Parks Department and ask them not to kill the geese this year.
