Attention all Madison gardeners! 🌿
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting your first raised bed this spring, we have an incredible local resource right at our fingertips.
The UW-Madison Division of Extension Horticulture website is a gold mine for anyone growing in our Wisconsin climate. Instead of guessing what’s wrong with your tomatoes or when to prune your hydrangeas, you can get science-based answers specifically for our region.
Here’s what you can find there:
✅ The Garden Fact Sheet Database: Detailed guides on everything from growing leafy greens to managing emerald ash borer.
✅ Plant Disease Diagnostics: Help identifying those mysterious spots on your leaves.
✅ The Learning Center: Webinars and articles on composting, pollinator gardens, and soil health.
Check it out here before you head out to the garden this weekend:

On Saturday, March 21, Focused Interruption is joining St. Paul A.M.E. Church and Messiah Lutheran Church for something powerful.
Together, they are hosting a Safe Gun Disposal Event from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Paul A.M.E. Church (4525 Diamond Dr., Madison, WI), followed by a public forging demonstration from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. This event is free, confidential, and open to all community members.
Why this matters:
This event gives community members a safe and responsible way to remove unwanted fi****ms from their homes. Instead of these weapons being resold or re-entering circulation, the fi****ms will be dismantled and the metal parts transformed into garden tools and artwork as part of the national Guns to Gardens movement. It is a powerful act of transformation, turning instruments of harm into tools that nurture growth and healing in our communities.
For Focused Interruption, this initiative is prevention in practice. Our work across outreach, community safety mediation, mentorship, and aftercare services addresses the root causes of violence and helps communities recover and build safer futures. Removing unwanted fi****ms from homes and neighborhoods is a practical, meaningful step in that direction.
Incentives for participation:
To encourage participation, individuals who surrender fi****ms will receive gift cards for gas or groceries. Cards range from $100 to $200 depending on the type of firearm, making it easier for community members to safely remove weapons they no longer want at home.
Community collaboration is essential to preventing violence and building safer neighborhoods. By working together, we can remove unwanted fi****ms from circulation and transform them into symbols of renewal and hope.
