Here's a glimpse behind the scenes of yesterday's Rusalka tutorial recording session!
Yesterday’s show at UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic marked OFTY’s final performance of "The Elixir of Love" for the season. We’re deeply honored to have been able to share joy, wonder, and music with so many schools during this past year.
Our heartfelt thanks to OFTY’s talented teaching artists, generous donors and grantors, the schools and teachers that graciously hosted us, and the students that brought these shows to life.
A fun moment from our Spring Concertina: Megan Brunning performs "La Chanson d'Olympia" from Jacques Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann.
In this aria, the mechanical doll Olympia sings "Tout ce qui chante et résonne / Et soupire, tour à tour / Emeut son cœur qui frissonne d'amour!" ("All that sings and sounds / And sighs in turn / Moves her heart which trembles with love"). But while Olympia's heart may be moved, her gears seize up and malfunction, requiring her creator, the scientist Spalanzani (or, in this case, OFTY General Director Saira Frank) to intervene and wind her back up.
Thanks to Stephan & Brady for providing the wonderful space for our Spring Concertina!

In AntonÃn Dvořák’s "Rusalka," the mermaid Rusalka dreams of becoming human after falling in love with a Prince. Warned by her father, the Sea King, she nevertheless seeks a magic spell from the Sea Witch...Jezibaba!
OFTY is so thrilled to be bringing our adaptation of Dvořák’s classic opera back on the road this coming fall. Today, we're channeling our excitement about these future plans into a celebration of our past "Rusalka" tours with this incredible photo of Jezibaba from way back in 2003.

So many interesting things to consider with this excellent article from Arts Midwest on the economic impact of creative work. OFTY is so proud to place the highest value on the work of our artists, providing them with meaningful opportunities and the means to contribute to the larger ecosystem described in the article!
Beyond the Jargon: The Creative Economy and You Artists have been hearing the phrase creative economy a lot lately. Learn where you fit in and why it matters.
We can’t wait to see you for Family Opera Day, Saturday May 30th at the Overture Center!
To support teachers and schools, OFTY provides a robust package of curriculum-ready, flexible teaching materials!
