We're excited for our screening of Tell Them We Are Rising on Thursday! Don't forget to come early to learn about options for paying for college from 3-5 pm and to hear from some local HBCU graduates from 5-6 pm. If you can't make it before the film, we'll continue the discussion after the screening.
We're thrilled that Michael Cox, Regional Director of Development at UNCF; Dr. Vivian Larkin, retired faculty member with more than 42 years of experience as an educator, administrator, researcher, and advocate for social justice; Jamaal Eubanks, father, educator, and entrepreneur that attended Alabama State University; and Nichelle Nichols, Executive Director of Family, Youth & Community Engagement at MMSD, will be among those joining us for the discussions.

Save the date for the first Indie Lens Pop-Up screening of 2018: Tell Them We Are Rising on Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 pm at the Central Library!
The screening will be the last in a series of events that day celebrating HBCUs. Please join us before the event for the following sessions:
How to Pay for College: Info Session for Parents and Students (3-5 pm)
Learn about some of the scholarships and financial aid options you have for paying for college. Presented by representatives of UNCF and other area educational institutions.
The HBCU Experience: Discussion and Q&A (5-6 pm)
Come hear about the college experiences of some graduates of historically black colleges and universities that are now living in the Madison area. There will also be time for questions.

Save the date for the next film in the Indie Lens Pop-Up series: "I Am Not Your Negro," one of the most acclaimed films of the year and an Oscar nominee for Best Documentary.
The film will be shown on Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 pm at the Central Library.
This film by Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished. The result is a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America, using Baldwin’s original words, spoken by Samuel L. Jackson, and with a flood of rich archival material.
