Happy Lakes Appreciation Month! It's time to dig out your Secchi disks for the Annual Secchi Dip-In running from July 1 to 31, 2024. Visit our website to find more information and download a form to submit your readings!
https://www.bclss.org/programs
Can't decide which lake to "dip"? No problem, we will accept dips from as many BC lakes as you would like to sample! Also, feel free to take multiple dips on the same lake within Lakes Appreciation Month.
Please submit your Secchi Dip-In data to BCLSS promptly to ensure that it is included in our final results. You can submit your completed Secchi Dip-In forms on our website or by email to [email protected]
Note: If you are already monitoring your lake at a level 1, 2, or 3, you may use one or more of your regular Secchi readings (providing that the data falls between July 1 and July 31) for the Annual Secchi Dip-In; however, we ask that you please complete a separate Secchi Dip-In form aside from your regular level 1, 2, or 3 data sheet.
We appreciate receiving your Secchi dips and hope you can participate this year! Please share with anyone that may be interested.

The Robert Carlson Secchi Dip-In is a demonstration of the potential of volunteer monitors to gather environmentally important information on our lakes, rivers, and estuaries. Although the Dip-In event is held in July, participants are welcome to monitor water quality and submit data year-round!
The North American Lake Management Society launched the AWQMS database with a web app for citizen science data entry, a public portal for data visualization and download, capabilities for migrating data from the Lake Observer app, and a direct connection to upload collected Secchi depth and water quality data to the federal government’s WQX/WQP databases.

Come take part in the North American Lake Management Society annual Secchi Dip-In. For the month of July, volunteer participants can gather and submit important data concerning our lakes, rivers, and estuaries. Secchi disks are easy to make and use. With a Secchi disk, you can travel to your local lake and measure its depths and test its water quality for scientific study.
