When life feels like it’s spinning out of control, the temptation is to spin faster.

We add more to the calendar.
We stay up later.
We try harder.
We push through.

But I’ve learned that some seasons aren’t asking us to do more. They’re asking us to slow down long enough to hear God’s voice.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, here are a few things that help me reset:

✨ 1. Give yourself grace for the season you’re in.
Not every season is meant to look the same. There are seasons of planting, seasons of harvest, seasons of rest, and seasons of rebuilding. Stop comparing today’s capacity to what you could do six months ago.

✨ 2. Focus on the next right step.
God rarely shows me the entire staircase. Most of the time, He gives me one step. Clarity often comes after obedience, not before it.

✨ 3. Simplify everything.
When life feels chaotic, reduce the number of decisions you’re making. What absolutely needs your attention today? Start there.

✨ 4. Get quiet before God.
Not to perform.
Not to check a box.
Just to sit with Him.

Some of the greatest breakthroughs in my life came after I stopped talking and started listening.

✨ 5. Pray honestly.
God isn’t intimidated by your fears, frustrations, or questions. Bring Him the real version of you, not the polished version.

✨ 6. Remember what He’s already done.
When my faith feels shaky, I revisit the prayers He’s already answered. Yesterday’s faithfulness becomes fuel for today’s trust.

Friend, if you’re in a hard season, this is your reminder:

You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to carry everything alone.
You don’t have to figure out the next year today.

Just take the next step.
Say the next prayer.
Trust God with the rest.

📖 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” - Proverbs

If you’re walking through a season that feels overwhelming, drop a ❤️ in the comments. I’ll be praying for you. 🙏✨

Five kids under 10.

And every single one of them is completely different.

One is a natural leader who wants responsibility and independence.

One asks a million questions and wants to know how everything works.

One has enough energy to power a small city.

One would happily spend the day cuddling on the couch.

One is still discovering the world with wide-eyed wonder.

As parents, it’s easy to assume that what worked for Child #1 should work for Child #2.

But people aren’t copy-and-paste.

The same words that motivate one child might discourage another.

The same correction that helps one child grow might cause another child to shut down.

The same activity that fills one child’s cup might completely drain another.

I’ve learned that great parenting isn’t about treating our children equally.

It’s about treating them uniquely.

It’s learning to celebrate the differences instead of trying to eliminate them.

It’s realizing that strengths often come packaged with challenges.

The strong-willed child may become a courageous leader.

The sensitive child may become deeply compassionate.

The curious child may become an innovator.

The energetic child may become an adventurer.

The quiet child may become a thoughtful problem solver.

Our job isn’t to turn our children into copies of each other.

Our job is to help each of them become who they were created to be.

The more I learn about my kids’ personalities, the more grace I have for them… and honestly, for myself too.

❤️ Which personality do you have in your family? The leader, the thinker, the adventurer, the helper, the comedian, or something else?

👇 Tell me about your child in one word.

Because tiny humans do not “walk to the park.”
They investigate every ant colony like it’s a National Geographic documentary.
They stop to pet invisible dragons.
They sprint ahead for 12 seconds, collapse dramatically on the sidewalk, then suddenly need to show you a rock that “looks like a chicken nugget.”

Meanwhile I’m out here mentally calculating:
• snack inventory 🍎
• nap timing 😅
• whether this detour into the grass is still considered cardio 🫠

But honestly?
These are the moments I know I’ll miss someday.

The sticky hands.
The made-up stories.
The random flowers handed to me like priceless treasure.
The way kids can turn a simple walk into a full-blown expedition with side quests, emotional support sticks, and at least three emergency hopping contests. 🌼⚔️

As a busy working mom in the Madison/Wisconsin chaos circus, it’s easy to feel like every minute needs to be productive.
But kids don’t measure life in productivity.
They measure it in puddles, bugs, snacks, and whether you stopped long enough to watch them do something “super important.” 💛

So yes…
the park may only be 10 minutes away.
But apparently we live in the extended director’s cut version of the journey. 🎬😂

And maybe that’s not wasted time after all

People ask me all the time how I keep my kids busy while I work from home.

The honest answer?

I stopped trying to create a perfectly quiet house.

I stopped chasing the idea that “good moms” somehow keep spotless homes, entertained children, healthy meals, successful careers, and peaceful mornings all running like a Pinterest coffee commercial. ☕️

Instead, I started building rhythms that work for OUR family.

Some days that looks like:
☀️ sprinkler afternoons
🎨 messy art projects
🚲 bike rides around the neighborhood
🧺 folding laundry during conference calls
📚 library runs
🌳 parks and nature trails
🍓 snack plates and popsicles
💻 answering clients between sibling negotiations

And honestly… as a working mom in the Madison, Wisconsin area with five kids, I’ve realized something:

Kids don’t actually need constant entertainment.
They need space to play.
Space to explore.
Space to be included in real life.

So while I work, my kids are learning how to create fun, solve problems, use imagination, and exist in a home that feels lived in instead of perfectly curated.

Is it loud sometimes? Absolutely.
Do I occasionally hide in the bathroom to send one uninterrupted email? Also yes. 😂

But one day this house will be quiet.
No little feet running through the kitchen.
No blanket forts.
No asking me to watch “one more trick.”

And I know I’ll miss this season more than I can explain.

So here’s your reminder, mama:
You do not have to choose between being present with your children and building a life you’re proud of.

Sometimes both things can exist at the same time…
right in the middle of the beautiful chaos. 🤍
