The Episcopal Church Welcomes You. The church welcomes everyone. And I welcome that. Been a minute since I sat in a cathedralâs pews but it is always comforting. Figured it was a good time to show up.

Forgive me while I brag shamelessly about one of my best friends on the planet.
Abass Mamud Sesay has completed all his courses for law school in Illinois!
CongratulationsđŸđđ
Abass and I worked together for three years on our Womenâs Communication and Leadership Conference in Sierra Leone đžđ± which finally took place in Freetown in 2021.
Though the pandemic delayed things and caused more chaos for us and the US Department of State than I care to remember we were one of a small percentage of fellows who completed our project in country despite COVID.
Abass has survived great hardship including the loss of 9 family members âhis parents and most siblings â to Ebola.
His story is one of ceaseless determination and much faith.
Abass and I have worked hard to support each other over the last five years since meeting at the Kansas Leadership Center in 2019.
I couldnât be more excited for him as he returns to Sierra Leone for his next round of legal education on his way to becoming a barrister.
Again, my most heartfelt congratulations Abass!

Héctor Colón wants to help keep Chippewa Falls residents alive and thriving, despite addiction and mental health issues. But that can be a tough fight.
The President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc. has helped to bring LSS back from the brink of financial disaster. Now he and LSS want to create a new substance use treatment center in Chippewa Falls in the former L.E. Phillips-Libertas Treatment Center at 2301 Highway I.
The goal is for LSS to purchase the building and begin preparations for a late 2025 opening. But first LSS needs to raise about $3 million in capital.
ColĂłn is ready to fight for the funding, he said.
At the start of ColĂłnâs tenure in 2017, LSS hadnât met its budget for four years straight. When he took over as president, the organization had 800 employees and just $73,000 in its bank account, ColĂłn said.
âWe had to borrow to pay payroll,â he said. âToday, we have over $27 million of cash and investments.â
