Boone and Crockett Club's Poach and Pay Project 10/03/2025

An unprecedented study shows that at least 90% of poaching is never even detected….with the ever-increasing duties and administrative workload faced by our Wardens, exacerbated by staffing shortages and funding cuts we just can’t begin to keep up.

Boone and Crockett Club's Poach and Pay Project Sportsmen and women know hunting is not poaching, and that poachers are thieves not hunters. But there is a public perception problem—and perceptions can become reality. Poachers must be held accountable and pay for their crimes. This is what the Boone and Crockett Club’s Poach & Pay Project wil...

Forestry Firefighters from Wisconsin at work up in Canada, eh.

With wildfire season raging across the western US and Canada, Wisconsin DNR crews are lending a helping hand. So far this year, Wisconsin has sent personnel and fire engines on more than 65 out-of-state assignments—including to Oregon, California, and northern Manitoba—to support firefighting and recovery efforts.

Thanks to recent rains and low fire risk here at home, the DNR has been able to mobilize more resources to areas in need. From managing incident response to working on the front lines, Wisconsin crews are gaining valuable experience while helping protect communities across North America.

“It’s a way for us to improve our program here," Catherine Koele, a Wisconsin DNR Wildfire Prevention Specialist, told Civic Media. "They share those experiences. 'Hey, we did this thing out in Oregon and it was really cool and a neat way to fight this fire.' Those strategies are brought back to the state, and we learn and grow from those experiences when we bring those resources back.”

Local 1215 (and others!) hard at work, and will be overnight, protecting people and resources. There’s a lot of our hard working members missing dinner with families, working all night putting in fire line, securing evacuated homes, and more. This is why we call ourselves ‘public servants- because we serve the public, sometimes 18-22 hours at a time in dangerous conditions.
