Small Ruminant Club - UW Vet Med

Today is the day! Come join us in room 2227 for holiday photos with this adorable pair of alpacas!

SRC is hosting another holiday photoshoot this year with an alpaca and her cria from Token Creek Alpaca Farm! We will be charging $3 for a cell phone picture or $5 for a cell phone picture and a Polaroid. Stop by room 2227 between 11am and 1:15pm on Wednesday 12/13 to get some much needed serotonin before finals!

SRC had the opportunity to host two wet labs at Token Creek Alpacas this fall! Students got hands on experience in the care and management of alpacas, hoof health, body condition scoring, and more! A very special thank you goes out to Token Creek for hosting!!

Our members enjoyed getting hands-on experience at Hillsboro Alpaca Ranch, LLC.! Students were able to practice restraint, shearing, and hoof trimming. A huge shout out to Dr. Raul for hosting!

Take a break between finals and selective week by working with alpacas! Dr. Raul of Hillsboro Alpaca Ranch, LLC. is generously hosting a herd health day where students can learn about proper restraint, toe/teeth trimming, and general husbandry.

Update! Unfortunately the SRC will not be bringing alpacas to our holiday photo fundraiser event next week. Yet, excitingly there will be goats instead! So come on out next week and take festive photos with our caprine friends on Tuesday December 13th, from 11am-1pm. We’ll be providing both Polaroid and digital photos!

Get ready to take some holiday photos with the Small Ruminant Club! SRC will be holding a club fundraiser where students and staff can take festive photos with an alpaca and cria pair! Another successful wet lab is in the books! SRC members were guided by Todd Taylor in sheep pregnancy detection, counting, as well as fetal aging in utero through the use of trans-abdominal ultrasound.

Learning about FAMACHA scoring related to parasite burden, hoof trimming, artificial insemination procedures, blood draw techniques, dental floating, and last but not least dairy goat management protocols all in one day? You goat to be kidding me! 🐐 SRC had the opportunity to learn from small ruminant veterinarian Dr. Chris Duemler about all of these interesting topics. Members practiced these skills and gained greater knowledge for use in their future career.

SRC had a wonderful time at Token Creek Alpacas last weekend, gaining some hands on experience in the care and management of alpacas, including meningeal worm prevention, hoof care, body condition scoring, and more! Thanks to Elden Harms for having us out!
