We’re proud to celebrate MGA alumnus Casey Jones on his induction into the Macon Sports Hall of Fame! 🏆

This honor marks another milestone in a remarkable career rooted in a lifelong passion for athletics, and one that began right here at Middle Georgia State University.

From standout high school athlete to MGA student-athlete, Casey’s journey continued at Appalachian State University before evolving into a coaching career that spanned more than 50 years across Central Georgia. Along the way, his teams achieved over 1,000 wins—but his greatest impact has been shaping the lives of the student-athletes he mentored.

From state championships to Coach of the Year honors, Casey’s legacy is built on discipline, teamwork, and leadership—values that continue to inspire generations.
His Hall of Fame induction is more than recognition; it’s a celebration of a life spent building others up.

Join us in congratulating Casey Jones on this well-deserved honor! 💜

A message from Christopher Blake, Ph.D., president:

It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of former University System of Georgia Regent Larry Walker, Jr.

Regent Walker was a distinguished public servant whose career was marked by decades of leadership, advocacy, and dedication to the people of Georgia. Known for his thoughtful leadership and unwavering commitment to public service, he played an instrumental role in advancing education, strengthening communities, and shaping public policy across our state. His service on the Board of Regents reflected a deep belief in the transformative power of higher education and a steadfast commitment to expanding opportunity for students.

For Middle Georgia State University, Regent Walker’s legacy is especially profound. During a pivotal period in our history, he was instrumental in supporting the consolidation of Middle Georgia College and Macon State College, a transformative step that ultimately led to the creation of Middle Georgia State College and, soon after, its designation as Middle Georgia State University. His leadership, advocacy, and vision within the University System of Georgia helped guide this process, ensuring that our institution emerged stronger and better positioned to serve the region and the state.

This past spring, Middle Georgia State University had the distinct honor of recognizing Regent Walker with an honorary Doctor of Public Administration degree. That moment reflected the profound and lasting impact he had on our University through his leadership and service on the Board of Regents. His support not only strengthened MGA’s growth and mission but also helped shape the very foundation of the institution we are today. This recognition affirmed the deep respect and gratitude our campus community holds for his contributions.

Regent Walker will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments, but also for his integrity, humility, and genuine care for others. His legacy of service and leadership will continue to inspire all of us who are committed to the mission of education and public good.

On behalf of Middle Georgia State University, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Walker family and to all who were touched by his life and work. We join them in honoring and remembering a life of exceptional impact and lasting influence.
