Did You Know: National Donut Day came about as a commemoration and celebration of the Salvation Army Lassies. In World War I, women were sent to the front lines in France by the Salvation Army. Hoping to raise morale of the troops, the women set up small huts where servicemen could buy stamps, soap, socks, and etc. The women also made donuts, which were a hit with the troops. In honor of the brave Lassies, National Donut Day became a celebration in 1938.
