As volunteers and within the capabilities of our equipment and training, we are pledged to protect the people of the Big Elk Meadows community area from emergencies and natural disasters and to render assistance in the event of medical emergencies. Beyond immediate safety of our neighbors, we also strive to protect the forest that surrounds us and the homes in which we live.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our mutual aid partners for their assistance in rescuing a hiker with a broken ankle in Johnny Park. Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Longmont Emergency Unit, Estes Park Health Paramedics, Boulder County Sheriff's Office The teamwork displayed by all responding units was exceptional.

We have two prizes that still need to be distributed from the duck race.
David Green with duck 58 came in last and won $15
Jerry  Dickinson with duck 76 came in 3rd and won $10
A big thank you to everyone who contributed and helped raise gas money for the VFD.

A volunteer group has helped Longmont police during emergencies for decades. Money trouble puts its future in question. The Longmont Emergency Unit, founded in 1957, has struggled in recent years with finding enough funding to keep the lights on. Volunteers worry for the organization they love.
This Sunday  8 AM till 11 come socialize with your neighbors and support your VFD with a pancake breakfast and duck race.
The siren will be tested at 11 followed by the duck race.

PARK...
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 214, 215, 216, 238, 239,
240, 241, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246, 247, 248, 249, 250 and 251.
* TIMING...From 10 AM Wednesday to midnight MDT Wednesday night.
* WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 6 percent.
* IMPACTS...Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread.
Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a
spark and start a wildfire.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
