Kudos to this young Mighty Girl for doing what she loves! According to "American Welder," although only approximately 6 percent of welders in the U.S. are female, more women have been entering this skilled trade in recent years.
For two fun picture books that show girls and women in roles as builders and skilled tradespersons, we highly recommend “Building Our House” for age 3 to 8 (http://www.amightygirl.com/building-our-house) and “How A House Is Built” for age 5 to 8 (http://www.amightygirl.com/how-a-house-is-built).
To encourage your Mighty Girl's interest in building, check out our blog post: "Building Her Dreams: Building and Engineering Toys for Mighty Girls" at http://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=10430
For several great sets to increase her confidence in using tools, we recommend the "Wooden Project Workbench" for ages 3 to 6 (http://www.amightygirl.com/wooden-project-workbench), "3-Pocket Tool Belt" for ages 10 and up (http://www.amightygirl.com/3-pocket-tool-belt), and "Around the House Tool Set" for ages 10 and up (http://www.amightygirl.com/around-the-house-tool-set).
And, for many at-home project ideas to encourage your children's interest in tinkering, we also recommend two excellent parenting books: “Tinkerlab: A Hands-On Guide for Little Inventors” (http://www.amightygirl.com/tinkerlab) and “Maker Dad: Lunch Box Guitars, Antigravity Jars, and 22 Other Incredibly Cool Father-Daughter DIY Projects” (http://www.amightygirl.com/maker-dad).
