Join the to explore Money Brook to Round Pond!

When: Friday, May 29, 2026

Time: 8:30 am - 11 am

Where: We will meet at the pull-off at the end of Benson Rd, to take a look at the mouth of the Black River where it enters Round Pond. Carpooling will be preferred.

Wear STURDY shoes (hiking boots might be wise, especially at Money Brook and Patch Brook - lots of gravel and rocks), bug spray, sun protection, layered clothing for any sort of weather.

What: From Round Pond, we’ll head north on 100 to explore the floodplain at Money Brook. Then we’ll head south on 100 to Billings Road at the Hawk Mtn Inn & Resort, following the Black River to the top of Amherst Lake. We will continue along with a couple of stops at various bridges and other points of interest, including the mouth of Patch Brook to look at the sandy delta. The final leg of our journey will take us back to the end of Benson Rd.

Why: to gain first-hand knowledge of the transport of various types of sediment over the five-mile journey from Money Brook to Round Pond.

Please reply/comment so that we know how many people to expect on this excursion. 📸courtesy of the

We are thrilled to introduce the new Lake Rescue Association logo! New merch will be coming soon, but read on to learn more about the thought that went into the design.

The prominence of the red bridge underscores the intimate connection between lakes Rescue and Pauline. The large mountain in the background highlights the importance of Okemo to the LRA community and to Ludlow in general. The pine trees in the foreground and the shaded water symbolize the natural beauty we all cherish, in and around the lakes.

Thanks to for the beautiful design!

We hope your 2026 is off to a great start! It can be great fun to go out on the lake ice, but safety comes first! Before heading out, remember:
* Ice should be at least 4 inches thick for walking and skating.
* 5-7 inches thick is recommended for snowmobiles or ATVs.
* Test ice thickness with a drill or auger.
* Avoid ice near moving water - it is often thinner and less stable.
* Never go out alone and always let someone know of your plans.
