Blackland Prairie Raptor Center

We get some fascinating stories from people that have encountered a raptor. Here's the story of how a Cooper's Hawk (Patient 26-5030) came to our raptor clinic. One gentleman said he was sitting on the couch in his mobile home that had a large window behind him. Wham! He heard something hit the window. He went outside and saw a hawk on the ground, not moving. The hawk was stunned from the impact. Once the hawk was brought to our raptor clinic, an examination was performed. Luckily, no major injuries or bone breaks were found. The hawk was very active and feisty. We like to see our patients be active rather than lethargic!

🦅 How it started vs. how it's going… Bald Eagle Edition

THEN: In March, these two eaglets arrived in our care as tiny nestlings after falling from their nest. Both had sustained multiple fractures in the fall.

NOW: Months later, they're preparing for their release exams with Dr. Mason. The next chapter of their story will be back where they belong: in the wild.

Getting them to this point takes much more than time. From specialized diets and medical care to daily monitoring, housing and everything that happens behind the scenes, we estimate their rehabilitation has cost close to $20,000.

And they are just two of the many young wild patients who need our help each year.

This year has already been a record-breaking one for baby raptors in our care, and all signs point to that need continuing to grow in the years ahead.

That's why this North Texas Giving Day, we're raising funds for our Nursery Hospital. This would be a dedicated space where some of our youngest and most vulnerable patients can receive the specialized care they need to grow, heal and one day return to the wild, just like these two are preparing to do.
