We are excited to announce the addition of a new Cohort VI institution into the US PREP Coalition - Stephen F. Austin State University!
The leadership and faculty from SFA completed a rigorous selection process to demonstrate their commitment to transform their educator preparation programs and to join the ranks of the other provider institutions in the coalition committed to disrupting inequities in PK-12 districts by renewing their own teacher preparation programs.
SFA James I. Perkins College of Education will now engage in a four-year transformation process to pilot, refine, scale, and sustain the quality objectives across all pathways and programs.

The US PREP Coalition Leadership Retreat was a huge success! US PREP convened Deans and program leaders from 25+ colleges and universities from the US PREP Coalition for the 2023 Leadership Retreat. Participants collaborated and learned from each other as they explored key leadership skills and mindsets necessary to implement US PREP’s transformed model of teacher preparation. They also heard from researchers in the field from US PREP’s Self-Study Research cohort and built their network of colleagues who are equally committed to the work of transformation. Thank you to all the presenters and attendees for a great event; US PREP is excited to see the change and implementation continue to grow in the 2023-2024 academic year!

What an amazing three days! This week, US PREP convened Site Coordinators and leaders from over 30 colleges and universities for the 2023 Clinical Convening. Participants engaged in learning and collaboration on the clinical aspects of yearlong student teaching and the role of the Site Coordinator - both fundamental components of the US PREP transformed model. The commitment of participants to ensure that they prepare PK-12 educators to be Day One Ready was inspiring!

Since 2018, US PREP has partnered with Education Policy Initiative at Carolina (EPIC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to implement a third-party evaluation of US PREP’s technical assistance. In their most recent research brief, EPIC details their evaluation and findings from data analysis of surveys of university-based teacher educators (deans, associate deans, department chairs, faculty, and field supervisors) in Cohorts I, II, & III of the US PREP Coalition. The surveys were administered on three occasions from Spring 2020 - 2022 and revealed the positive impact of the transformed model on many components of teacher preparation. US PREP Coalition institution, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's College of Education and Human Development, was recently featured in the Spring 2023 issue of The Islander Magazine for their implementation of a yearlong residency pilot and other innovations underway.
“The university and partner districts involved in the Islander Residency pilot program are committed to a transformational partnership centered on shared governance, positive student learning outcomes, and teacher recruitment and retention,” said Dr. Robin Johnson, TAMU-CC Associate Professor and Field-Based Experience Coordinator.

Last week’s Arkansas EPP Design Collaborative was a huge success! Arkansas Department of Education, Forward Arkansas, 2Revolutions, and US PREP brought together 16 Educator Preparation Programs from across Arkansas to learn about and reflect on the key components of teacher residency and identify necessary shifts in programming for successful implementation. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with others in the education community and work towards improving teacher preparation in Arkansas.
