04/28/2026 - We are still on track to see widespread rainfall Thursday through Friday across eastern New Mexico and western Texas! While we are still fine-tuning just exactly how much rainfall we're expected to see, here is a *preliminary* look at what data is suggesting. *THESE NUMBERS WILL CHANGE* Focus more on the pattern, and less on the numbers with this graphic. Localized heavier totals could exceed 2" with this event. Northern locations are expected to see the lightest rainfall, with the most widespread, heavier rain likely over central and southeastern locations⛈

04/28/2026 - Friday's forecast high temperatures will be warmer than what we woke up to this morning! While the rain is the headline of the forecast later this week, the colder air cannot be overlooked! This cooler air will prevent widespread severe storms across the region, meaning that this event will primarily be a rain event!

4:03 PM CDT 04/28/2026 - Our cold front is slowly making its way into the region this afternoon. Ahead of the front, it is warm and windy. Once the front passes through tonight, clouds will build and cooler air will filter in! A much cooler, cloudier day is in store for our Wednesday tomorrow!

04/28/2026 3:29 PM CDT - Know of anyone in the DFW Metroplex this afternoon? Some pretty intense storms are headed that way, expected to impact the area during peak rush hour this evening. These storms have a history of producing tornadoes and at least golf ball sized hail (1.75" in diameter). The environment they're moving into is favorable for continued intensification! Flights between Lubbock and Dallas will likely see delays, possibly even cancellations this evening.

‼️ATTENTION ROOFERS‼️
04/28/2026 - If you’re working on installing roofs this week, FINISH BEFORE Thursday!!! Rain chances increase Thursday, with very heavy rainfall likely across the region. This activity will remain through Friday⛈️

Red Flag Warnings are in effect today for all of the South Plains, eastern New Mexico and southeastern New Mexico. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are forecast. NO outdoor burning, and be sure to use extra caution with activities that could produce a spark!

04/28/2026 12:24 AM CDT - As expected, isolated showers are developing behind the dry line that is lifting back to the northwest across the region. This shower and potential thunderstorm activity will move to the northeast. The best chance of seeing any activity will remain south of the Highway 82 corridor through roughly 6 AM CDT.

04/27/2026 - As rain chances go up, temperatures look to go down! Our cold fronts that are expected this week will bring in some seasonably cool air! Some locations will be close to freezing by sunrise on Saturday morning following high temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s for Friday!

04/28/2026

10:00 PM 04/27/2026 - High resolution modeling data is suggesting we could see a rogue shower or storm as the dry line backs into the region overnight. Best chance will remain southeast of Lubbock!
