In Memory Minister Cynthia Jean Brown Butler
~ Obituary ~
Minister Cynthia Jean Brown Butler, 64, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11 am at Greater St. James Baptist Church. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Minister Cynthia Jean Brown Butler wore many hats in her lifetime. Daughter, wife, mother, student, administrator, teacher, missionary, world traveler, minister, prayer warrior. She spent most of those years in love with the Lord Jesus and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, having received the Lord at the age of thirteen. If you ever met Cyndy and asked her what she was passionate about, she would first ask you about you. She wanted to know how your life was going. She believed in healing hugs. The type that would make you want to cry. The type that made you feel loved.
She leaves behind in her passing, her beloved only daughter Ashley Inez Gresham, her grandchildren, Josiah 'My Boy', Gideon, and granddaughter Shiloh, sisters Allie Wilson, Min. Sharon Rose, nieces Keely Wilson, Randi Wilson, nephews Ryan Vance, (Latoya), Jordan Vance, Jason Wilson. All of which, she was more like a second Mom.
Cynthia was born in 1961 in St. Louis, MO. to Rev. Richard and Gracie Brown. After graduating high school, she spent many, many years furthering her education focusing primarily on her Social Work degree. She spent her life giving and helping others reach their goals and dreams of becoming their best selves. It wasn't a hobby, it was a calling. She felt it was her assignment and she served it well. She leaves behind many, other family members, cousins, nieces and nephews,
friends, and coworkers in the service of our Lord. She will be greatly missed.
