This was me at 10 years old. π€£ My form was terrible, I pitched SLOW, but I could throw strikes and sure... plenty of balls too. BUT I LOVED THE GAME! β₯οΈ
I pitched some awesome games and some bad games. I had a coach who didn't pitch me much because I was slow, I would argue with my dad during practice and start crying, my mom would tell me to quit if I don't like it, and I made JV my freshman year of high school. But I kept working.. πͺ
With time, as I continued to grow and continued to develop as a pitcher...I helped my team win a few national travel tourneys, I led my high school team to a state championship title, I won the Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year award, I earned a full D1 scholarship to pitch in college, I got to set college records, and I got to leave college with ZERO student loan debt. π€©
Coaches and parents, let's remind ourselves that pitching takes time. Pitchers need to grow and learn. A mediocre 10u pitcher could be a college scholarship pitcher if given time and opportunities to develop. Let's stop hunting for 10u/12u trophies and instead develop athletes. Let's stop putting too much pressure for pitchers to be perfect so young. Let's just let them learn to love the game, learn to put in hard work, and learn that success takes time. π
