📣Lovington residents — the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Heat Warning for tomorrow Wednesday June 17th.
🌞Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits, with a major heat risk
⌚️11 AM MDT through 9 PM MDT.
A major heat risk means much of our community is at risk of heat‑related illness if outdoors for long periods without proper cooling or hydration.
▪️Drink water often — don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
▪️Stay in air‑conditioned spaces whenever possible.
▪️Wear lightweight, light‑colored clothing to help your body stay cool.
▪️Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours.
▪️Check on elderly neighbors, outdoor workers, and pets — they’re especially vulnerable.
If you notice signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke — such as dizziness, nausea, confusion, or hot, dry skin — call 911 immediately.
Let’s look out for one another and keep Lovington safe during this extreme heat.

Keeping properties clean and maintained plays a major role in keeping Lovington safe and beautiful. Overgrown weeds, trash piles, and cluttered yards create unnecessary fire hazards and add fuel that allows fires to start and spread more quickly. When residents mow regularly, remove debris, and store items properly, it reduces ignition risks, improves emergency access, and supports the efforts of Code Enforcement to keep neighborhoods healthy and orderly.
A well‑kept property protects your home, strengthens community safety, and helps keep Lovington a place we can all be proud of.
06/10/2026
Lovington is expecting high heat today, with temperatures possibly reaching triple digits. The Lovington Fire Department is urging our community to take precautions throughout the day.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion:
- Heavy sweating
- Weakness or dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Cool, pale, clammy skin
- Fast, weak pulse
If symptoms worsen or progress to confusion, fainting, or hot/dry skin, this may indicate heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately.
Stay safe and stay hydrated:
- Drink water consistently throughout the day
- Avoid alcohol and energy drinks
- Take breaks in shaded or air‑conditioned areas
- Check on elderly neighbors, outdoor workers, and pets
Your safety is our priority. Please take today’s heat seriously and look out for one another.

When the tones go off at 2:00 AM, you don’t care about job titles. You just care that help is on the way.
This week is EMS Week, but we aren’t here to give you a polished corporate greeting. We want to talk about what it actually takes to run these medical calls in Lovington.
Emergency medical service out here isn't just about riding in an ambulance. It’s about making critical, split-second decisions on the side of a dark highway, in a cramped hallway, or on a living room floor when a family is having the worst day of their lives. It's high-stakes, high-stress, and it demands everything you’ve got.
We ask a massive amount from our crew, and they deliver every single shift:
Our Dual-Role Firefighter/EMTs: These men and women don’t get to just pick one job. They switch gears instantly from pulling hose lines to starting IVs and managing trauma. They pull double duty and bear the brunt of our call volume because that’s what this community needs.
Our 3 EMS Specialists: The clinical focus, the logistics, and the technical expertise. They keep our medical operations locked down and moving forward, ensuring the trucks are completely locked and loaded so we are always ready for the next hit.
It’s missing dinners with family. It's running on zero sleep. It’s carrying the weight of the calls that didn’t go the way we wanted, and finding the grit to stand back up and answer the next one anyway.
To our crew: We see the miles you put in, the stress you carry, and the quiet dedication you bring to this city and Lea County. Thank you for never tapping out.
Lovington, these first responders are there for you on your worst days. If you see them out at a gas station or grabbing lunch this week, take a second to look them in the eye and say thank you. They’ve earned it.
10:36pm - Fire and EMS units have left scene. Sheriff's deputies remain on scene. Traffic will open up shortly. Be cautious driving through the area.
9:55 Units are currently on scene of a vehicle fire located at Gum and 25th street. Traffic is halted in both directions. Seek an alternate route. Be cautious of personnel in the area. We will update as roads is opened back up.
