SummerWorks develops and supports Louisville's young talent and connects them to summer jobs, career opportunities, and supportive networks. Today we kicked off this year's SummerWorks program and I am proud to have the support of some of the largest organizations in Louisville - Humana , GE Appliances, Thorntons , and many more. SummerWorks’ Story
In 2011, with Louisville's teen unemployment rate at record levels, the federal program that provided summer jobs to young people disappeared. Facing the prospect of skyrocketing unemployment among the city's youth, newly-elected mayor Greg Fischer created SummerWorks.
Since then, more than 16,800 youth have been placed in jobs by SummerWorks and its Champion Employers. The program continues to expand and evolve each year because our local businesses recognize that there is no substitute for on-the-job training. When we invest in young workers, it's far more than an invaluable short-term opportunity - we strengthen the long-term foundation of our economy, and our community.
SummerWorks is a 501(c)(3) organization led by KentuckianaWorks, the Louisville Region's Workforce Development Board, in partnership with YouthBuild Louisville.
