Philadelphia Fleabane - Erigeron philadelphicus - a native biennial or short-lived perennial of the Aster family (Asteraceae). There are two other species in this genus that have almost identical flowers and are common locally. Philadelphia Fleabane, also called Common Fleabane, is hairy, often has coarsely toothed leaves, more ray flowers and larger flowerheads than the other two species, has fairly wide leaves in comparison, and most distinctively has leaves that clasp the stem rather than on petioles. Also prefers moister locations, hence another common name, Marsh Fleabane.

Weedy, flowerheads on this species are numerous with very narrow, white rays (100 to 300). Sometimes the rays are pink or purplish. The name fleabane appears to be derived from a belief that the dried plants repelled fleas or that the plants were poisonous to fleas.

Phytolacca americana, commonly known as pokeweed, is a toxic perennial plant native to most of the US. It can grow up to 12 ft tall and 5 ft wide, with reddish stems and large, elliptical leaves that can reach 20 in long. The plant produces white to pink flowers in clusters from early spring to early summer, followed by shiny, deep purple berries in the fall. Each berry contains a single black, lens-shaped seed.
