Originally written for the Dear Companion project with Daniel Martin Moore and Jim James for Sub Pop records. The record was intended to celebrate Appalachia, and raise awareness about mountain top removal.

Sweet Marie represents the mountain, but could just as easily be the watershed, or natural lands being carved up for data centers. The exploitative relationship remains: we tolerate the destruction for the convenience.
