I have a confession.

After a very busy week of Summer Art Camp, Father's Day almost snuck right past me.
⠀
I ended up with even more campers than I originally planned for, which meant a week full of paint, laughter, questions, snacks, and approximately 47,000 trips to the sink.

It was an amazing week.
⠀
But by Friday afternoon, I was running almost entirely on coffee and adrenaline.
⠀
Barely had a chance to catch my breath when I glanced at the calendar and realized Father's Day is this weekend.
⠀

It felt a little unfair, honestly. (Didn't we just finish Mother's Day?)

Sorry, Dads.

But I'm not going to let the good dads in your life go uncelebrated. So I threw together two fun events this Saturday.

If dad enjoys making things, building things, or just figuring out how things fit together, this class might be right up his alley.

We'll use broken pottery, glass, tiles, trinkets, and all sorts of unexpected materials to create a one-of-a-kind mosaic project. Every piece becomes part of the design, and no two mosaics ever turn out alike.

It's creative, a little hands-on, a little puzzle-solving, and a great excuse to spend a couple uninterrupted hours with Dad.
⠀

So yes, Father's Day may have caught me by surprise this year.
⠀
But the dads, grandpas, stepdads, and father figures definitely deserve their moment too.
⠀

And Saturday night ends with a UFO hovering over Albuquerque.

Somehow, all of this makes perfect sense to me. 😆

This month's Found Objects Mosaic class starts with a blank garden pot and a collection of broken pottery, colorful trinkets, and other found treasures.

In reality, it's one of my favorite classes because no two projects ever look alike.

Some people choose pieces because they love the colors. Others bring broken dishes, old jewelry, or little objects that remind them of a person, place, or memory.

I'll be getting the studio ready for Summer Camp starting Monday. A whole room full of young artists needs some serious prep work.

​Sunday we close out with Iris Surprises. Bold blue irises with that classic Van Gogh movement. It's vibrant and honestly just really fun to paint.

This whole month has been my little tribute to Van Gogh... a reminder that he didn't start painting seriously until later in life, and still created some of the most recognizable art in the world.
