Protecting the rights of young people impacted by foster care.

More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, freedom finally reached the furthest west of the Confederate states on June 19, 1865.

Juneteenth is a reminder of profound resilience, a celebration of Black culture and brilliance, and a call to reflect on the work that still lies ahead on the path to justice. How are you reflecting or showing up for your community today? 👇

Every child deserves a safe, stable home—and the support to thrive. The Emergency Child Care Bridge Program helps foster families access immediate child care, connects them to long-term early education, and provides trauma-informed support. SB 1051 (Menjivar) ensures there is no wrong door to accessing this critical program by allowing Bridge Navigators to initiate referrals, while keeping eligibility decisions with social workers.

🌟Reduces delays
🌟Supports foster families and caregivers
🌟Helps keep children in stable placements

It’s a simple fix that strengthens a proven program—and helps children when they need it most.

What does it mean to support LGBTQ+ youth in foster care? It means giving them the legal backing to advocate for their own futures.

At 15, Joel to the Alliance seeking emancipation from an abusive environment. In his own words: "The courts are like, we get one of these cases per year and it's normally not approved."

Our team didn't just look at the statistics; we looked at his resilience. By standing in his corner, we helped him discover that his voice was powerful. Today, Joel is a husband building his own family and preparing to become a foster parent himself—champions for the next generation.

This , we celebrate the incredible strength of the youth we serve and recommit to ensuring every young person has the right to live safely, authentically, and with a community on their side.

As Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, our hearts are full.

This month, we've witnessed the incredible strength of our community—showing up for young people in foster care, advocating for systemic change, and refusing to accept that young people should have to navigate systems alone.

A special thank you to those who became Friends of the Alliance. Your monthly gift means consistent, sustained support for young people and families—the kind of reliability that changes lives. You're not just responding to a moment. You're committing to lasting change.

If this month helped inform you on the issues children in foster care face everyday, we invite you to keep showing up. The work doesn't pause when the calendar turns. Young people in foster care need steady, reliable advocates year-round.

Foster Care Awareness Month isn't just about supporting young people in care right now—it's about transforming the systems that affect them for generations to come.

"Children deserve stability and care from the people who know and love them most. Our policy priorities this year focus on removing barriers to that stability: expanding access to education, strengthening family connections, and ensuring young people exiting the foster care system have real pathways to permanence and independence. We're investing in systemic change that protects today's youth and future generations."
— Kristin Power, VP of Policy & Advocacy

The Alliance for Children's Rights does both: we advocate for individual young people navigating the system today, and we work to reshape the system itself. Because lasting change requires both.

Become a Friend of the Alliance for just $1 a day. Your support funds advocacy that changes lives and transforms systems.

“When we show up and believe in their ability to parent, we're not just changing their lives—we're breaking a cycle and creating something stronger for them and their children. We're interrupting a cycle that's been generations in the making, and creating something stronger for their children."
— Dr. Shiré Wortham, DSW, Alliance for Children's Rights

Last year, our Healthy Teen Families program supported over 250 expectant and parenting youth in care—connecting them with reproductive healthcare, childcare, and essential parenting resources. With your support, we can keep answering the call, helping young people rewrite their family's stories.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Survival Saturday: Pathway to Independence. 🕊️

As we kick off Foster Care Awareness Month, we were honored to host youth from our TAY Program for a day of growth and connection. Hearing Alexis Obinna and Dr. Lawrence Winston share their "Success" stories reminded us all why the Alliance’s mission is so vital.

Deep gratitude to our workshop partners—including JVS SoCal, Volunteers of America, and CRCD—for providing tangible resources and job opportunities to our attendees.
Community support makes these days possible. See you at the next one! 🤝
