Chao Tom (Vietnamese Shrimp Paste Skewers). This dish is one of those things that is a favorite among the Vietnamese community but outside of that, it’s not as well known. It’s like if you know, you know. I grew having this dish at big parties or at restaurants. It’s made with a shrimp and pork paste wrapped around sugarcane sticks that are then steamed and fried to perfection. However, I found it super hard to find sugarcane. I looked for a few weeks and nothing…so I decided to use lemongrass as a substitute. I think it works just as well! Grab the recipe in bio.

New on the blog is my homemade Char Siu sauce. I use it to make all my Char Siu dishes including my classic Char Siu pork. Unlike store bought sauces, this sauce is free from maltose, red food coloring, and high fructose corn syrup.
