In 2021, Acorn made news for another capital market first – launching two real estate investment trusts (REITs) that act as a ‘virtuous self-financing cycle’ – with the development or “D-REIT” acquiring land and developing new housing, and the investment or “I-IREIT” buying the operational asset as a long-term investment, thereby replenishing the D-REIT to go and buy more land and build more housing. The D-REIT was the first REIT of its kind in the world, as well as being the first student accommodation REIT in Africa and the first to issue on the OTC segment of the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

🏠QuickHaven's "Q70 Emergency Sleeping Cabin" is a flatpack transitional shelter unit designed for people formerly experiencing homelessness in a transitional shelter village setting.

With dozens of shelters deployed in two villages in California to date, and many more shelters in the pipeline across the Western United States, the Q70 sets a new standard for transitional shelters - designed to be built in an hour with three people and a hex wrench, the unit is a durable, cost effective solution addressing unsheltered homelessness.

⚡️🌪 Developed for the New York City Office of Emergency Management, Garrison Architects was hired to design a modular post-disaster housing prototype for displaced city residents in the event of a catastrophic natural or man-made disaster. The multi-story, multi-family units can be deployed in less than 15 hours, in various arrangements calibrated for challenging urban conditions.
