๐๏ธ PCITI NATIONAL DROP-IN CALL
The next PCITI National Drop-In Call is Next Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Hosted by our core partners at CBPS Collective
This month's topic: Preparing the Next Generation: Youth Leadership, Mentorship & Community-Based Public Safety.
As community-based public safety continues to evolve, the question of how we prepare and protect the next generation is at the center of the work. This conversation is for the practitioners, mentors, and leaders thinking about how to develop young people into the next wave of community safety professionals, peacemakers, and change agents.
We will be discussing youth leadership, the role of mentorship in violence prevention, and how community-based public safety can intentionally invest in the development of the youth who will carry this work forward.
This call is open to certified PCITI Alumni and Members.

โฏ๏ธ Halimah Basheer recently joined 's Couch Party to talk about BUILDing Youthful Warriors, our youth leadership and community safety workshop happening next Saturday, June 27 in Los Angeles.
"My father would always tell me, look, I didn't raise no weak link, I raised a soldierette. I stand on business when it comes to that. He was a former Black Panther, so he understands the movement, he understands why this work is so important."
Halimah broke down what BUILDing Youthful Warriors is really about, equipping young people with the tools, the discipline, the structure, and the order, and showing them what leadership actually looks like.
"It doesn't have to be all militant. It doesn't have to be what they're used to seeing. It looks like what's in us, the role models that are in place. We want the youth and the young people to feel seen and heard. We're not here to tell you what to do. We're not here to tell you how to do it. But we are here to support you through it. And whatever we got to do to put you in positions to help you get there, that's what we're going to do."
And she closed with the line that has been carried through this entire movement, from the Commander to the next generation:
"We need each other. It's not a competition. We need each other."

"I will not sit at tables where respect is no longer being served! A long time ago, I learned to leave the table when respect stopped being served. It was the most impactful move I ever made in my life. From that point forward, I became unstoppable."
โ Dr. Aquil Basheer
Swipe through. This one is for anyone who has ever stayed at a table too long.
This is the standard Dr. Basheer set, in his life and in his work. It is the foundation The Build Program was built on, training credible practitioners to operate with both expertise and self-respect, in rooms that recognize their worth.
That's the BUILD mindset.

โฎ๏ธ โฎ๏ธ FLASHBACK FRIDAY
Looking back at our Commander, Dr. Aquil Basheer, founder of The BUILD program, breaking down the heart of this work.
"Violence is really just an aftermath of that trauma or the inability to engage that trauma."
This is what BUILD-PCITI does. We train individuals with trauma-induced lived experience and teach them how to use real life based scenarios to advocate for and protect their communities.
In this throwback clip, the Commander explains why proper training is non-negotiable, why lived experience is the foundation of credibility in this work, and why we do interdiction, not just intervention.
"It's best to find somebody with lived experience that been through that process to understand what that young man or young lady is at at that moment in their life."
๐งก During Gun Violence Awareness Month, his words hit even harder. The people closest to the trauma are the ones with the answers. The people closest to gun violence are the ones who can lead the response.
This is the standard. This is the model. This is the work that has continued in 90 plus cities for over 40 years.
Wear orange this month and stand with the practitioners doing this work every day.

๐ช๐ฝ WARRIORS AT WORK |
Warriors, BUILD-PCITI was recently with our beloved family and special partners out of Newark, NCST Newark Community Street Team, for a Level 2 Refresher that brought our practitioners back to sharpen what they have built and continue carrying the methodology forward!
The BUILD program remains committed to developing practitioners through ongoing training, refinement and professional growth. Led by our National Master Lead Trainer, Bro. Daamin Ali , this refresher reinforced the skill sets, protocols, and disciplined intervention practices that keep practitioners ready, sharp, and effective in the field.
This work is bigger than any one person. It requires continuous learning, refinement, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. The communities we serve deserve practitioners who remain prepared and equipped to carry the methodology forward and continue building sustainable community capacity.
Together we BUILD. โ๐พ
Big salute to NCST, Mayor Ras J. Baraka , and all of those who are playing a role in the transformation of Newark. Real work is getting done by real people who are genuinely committed to the cause of community safety and community ownership.

You heard it straight from our Executive Director, Halimah Basheer. ๐ค
Our youth are carrying a lot right now. Too many young people are growing up without leadership, discipline, or guidance and that's exactly why we built this.
BUILDing Youthful Warriors is bringing together youth, community organizations, mentors, and leaders all focused on what our next generation actually needs: discipline, leadership, violence prevention, healing, and empowerment.
This isn't just another community event. This is a movement. Come stand with us and our Community partners!

"We don't work for the community, we serve the community." โ Dr. Aquil Basheer

๐ง MINDSET MONDAY
The Commander on growth and responsibility.
"You're never too old to learn and you're never too young to teach!"
โ Dr. Aquil Basheer
This is the mindset that keeps the work moving forward.
No matter how long you have been in this work, there is always more to learn, more to refine, more to sharpen. The day you decide you know it all is the day you stop being useful to the community you serve. The most seasoned practitioners are the ones who stay students of the work.
And no matter how new you are, you carry something somebody else needs to hear. Your experience, your perspective, your story. The next generation is watching, listening, and waiting to be taught.
Stay a Student and stay a Teacher, both at the same time.
That's the BUILD mindset.
