What an amazing and heartwarming day.
THOUSANDS of people all day flocked to Bob's Sporting Goods for fantastic food for an amazing cause.
This is what hope and resiliency looks like in America, and we know that every day here in Cowlitz County. We come back stronger together.
Join us here at Bob's Sporting Goods for the parking lot benefit barbecue for the victims of the Nippon Dynawave tragedy.
Food and goodies by donation, come on down, we’re here until seven.
Amazing to see so many people step up to help those in need.
There will be another update at 3:30.

From KLOG regarding the situation with assistance for the families affected by the accident at Nippon:
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES (we will add to this list as other opportunities become available).
The Cowlitz/Wahkiakum Central Labor Council and Longview/Kelso Building Trades have set up an account at Lower Columbia Longshoreman’s Federal Credit Union for donations to victims’ families. All money raised will be split among the families.
There is a Go Fund Me page set up for the family of Gilbert Bernal. Just search for Gilbert Bernal at GoFundMe.com.
There is a Meal Train set up for the Miller family. If you’d like to help, go to MealTrain.com and search The Miller Family, Longview.
Now through Sunday, May 31st, both Longview McDonald’s locations are offering one free meal per visit to all first responders during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just show your official ID or arrive in uniform.
Longviewers,
I want to thank each and every one of you who joined us at the vigil tonight for the victims and families affected by the tragic accident at the Nippon mill today.
One thing I heard over and over again is that we don’t yet know if we know someone involved.
Together we remain strong, resilient, and we will come through this in hope.
Keep our first responders in your thoughts as well, we’re grateful for the fast response and the hard work during this recovery. Thank you to our faith leaders offering words of prayer tonight.
Hold your loved ones close, reach out to your friends, keep each other cared for.
We all know someone affected today.
I want to thank Governor Bob Ferguson and Speaker Jinkins for joining us this evening, along with our congresswoman Gluesenkamp Perez, and our entire state delegation representing Longview.

Enjoyed the annual Memorial Day service at Longview Memorial Park this morning with the kids and friends.
Of course a day of remembrance, ceremonies across the country are usually led by local American Legion or VFW posts as ours is. This offers an important observation that these organizations are usually led by elderly veterans honoring the fallen- who were usually very young when they gave their lives for our freedoms in this country. The concept here is stewardship and respect. These veterans came home because their friends did not.
Today you can read the names of our fallen young people at the Civic Center Park’s War Memorial Monuments.
-The average age of those lost in the Vietnam War was 23.
-The average age of those lost in WWI was 19.
-The average age of those lost at Normandy in WWII was 22.
Live lives worth their sacrifice. Join a service group, help a neighbor, make your country a better place.
The Longview School Board has the ability to hold an emergency meeting to take action on this situation.
Never would I have extended the contract of an employee under investigation, much less had said contract extension in the consent agenda.
The Longview School Board owes concerned parents an apology.
