Michael Jackson’s "Man in the Mirror" reminds us that true change starts within. We often want to fix the world around us, yet the song calls us back to the mirror, asking us to look at ourselves first. In reentry and healing work, this truth is vital—because we can only meet others as deeply as we are willing to meet ourselves. When we take the hard steps of facing our past, owning our choices, and choosing growth, we open the door for real transformation. It’s through that inner work that we learn to extend compassion, to guide others with honesty, and to walk beside them as they find their own path forward. Change doesn’t begin with pointing outward—it begins with the courage to turn inward, and that courage becomes the foundation of hope we can pass on to others. -B&D Community Roots HH

Whenever you feel like losing hope, ask yourself this: what if everything I’m going through now is preparing me for what I asked for?”

Life can be incredibly challenging at times, and when things aren’t unfolding as we desire, it’s effortless to succumb to thoughts of inadequacy and insufficiency. However, these feelings of not being enough or not having enough can be overwhelming. But here’s the liberating truth: we possess the power to transcend these thoughts. We can initiate our journey by focusing on the minuscule, yet significant, steps we can take to propel ourselves forward, even if progress seems imperceptible. Instead of obsessing over the things you perceive as lacking, pose this profound question to yourself: "What’s one small, yet impactful, action I can undertake today to ignite progress?" It needn’t be a monumental feat – merely one small, deliberate act, such as crafting a message, articulating a goal, or devising a plan. These seemingly insignificant actions accumulate and foster a sense of empowerment, even if progress is incremental. Cultivate patience and self-compassion. You needn’t strive for perfection, and you don’t require a definitive plan. Progress is often an unassuming, gradual process. Every small step forward is a testament to your growth. The more you persist in taking these small actions, the more you’ll discern tangible progress. Remember, your journey is uniquely yours, and it’s perfectly acceptable to navigate it at your own pace. Don’t be distracted by the accomplishments of others or the things you perceive as lacking. Instead, channel your energy into what you can accomplish today. And recognize that each small step propels you closer to your aspirations. You are enough, and every incremental advancement is a cause for celebration.
