A big day out for our girl, Maggie! 🐾❤️

This 2.5-year-old Belgian Malinois recently went on an Expawdition to PetSmart, and let's just say... she was living her best life. She proudly showed off all the leash skills and handler engagement she's been working so hard on during her time with us, explored the store like a pro, and discovered one of life's greatest joys: sticking your head out the car window. The smile on her face said it all.

Maggie's story is a little different. Despite being an adult dog, it was reported that she had only been on one walk in her entire life before coming to us and had very little exposure to new people and experiences. Because of that, she's still learning how to be a dog in the world around her. Every new experience is exactly that, new. And every day, she gets a little braver.

As a Belgian Malinois, Maggie is incredibly smart, eager to learn, and would absolutely love having a job to do. We know there are plenty of Malinois lovers out there who understand just how special these dogs are. Maggie needs an adopter who can continue building her confidence and give her the structure and enrichment she craves. Because she's understandably wary of strangers, she'll require multiple visits before an adoption can move forward. We know that might sound like a lot, but trust us, this girl is worth it.

Because beneath it all, Maggie is SO loving. Like, lean-into-you-for-more-pets, melt-your-heart, can't-get-close-enough loving. She's working through her challenges, embracing new adventures, and showing us every day just how much potential she has.

🏡 Maggie's ideal home:
🐾 Adult-only home
🐾 No other dogs
🐾 No cats
🐾 Patient adopters willing to do multiple meet-and-greets to establish trust.

We're not looking for a perfect home for Maggie. We're looking for the right one. ❤️

Meet Rheba. 💙

Rheba is a 4-year-old sweetheart who has completely stolen the hearts of our staff. She’s the kind of dog who melts into your lap, gently leans in for hugs, covers you in kisses, and looks into your eyes like she’s known you forever. The second you start petting her, she might p*e, but her whole body WILL wiggle with happiness.

Okay, wonderful, what’s the (other) catch? When left alone in offices around the shelter, Rheba has proven to be a menace. I mean, really, she can absolutely outwork a paper shredder. To our relief, she passed her crate assessment with no concerns. We absolutely recommend crating her while you’re away to keep both her and your home safe.

Rheba is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. The good news is that heartworm is curable. The hard part is that treatment takes time, patience, and lots of rest. During her recovery, she needs a calm home where she can avoid running, roughhousing, and getting overly excited.

Because of this, Rheba needs:
🐾 To be the only pet in the home
🐾 Children who can understand she needs to stay calm while she heals
🐾 A foster family willing to give her the quiet place she deserves

The best part? Longmont Humane Society provides EVERYTHING. Food, supplies, medications, veterinary care, and every medical expense are fully covered. All you provide is a loving home while she recovers.

Rheba will continue to have regular medical appointments and we want her close by in case of an emergency, foster homes must be within approximately 30 minutes of Longmont Humane Society.

Not quite the right fit for Rheba? We also have Charlie, a lovable 3-year-old heartworm-positive boy who needs a foster home for his recovery journey. Charlie was surrendered after his owner’s health declined, and he’s ready for a second chance with a caring foster family.

Since both Rheba and Charlie are receiving medical treatment, they won’t appear on our adoption website.

If you’d like to foster one of these incredible dogs, please email [email protected] to apply.

Your home could be the reason they get a second chance. ❤️

258 adoptions since May 1. 🐾❤️

We love celebrating the number, but what we love even more are the stories behind it.

Some of these animals needed medical care. Some needed training, patience, or a little extra time to build confidence. Some were here for months, and some found their families right away. No two journeys looked the same.

What they all have in common is that someone gave them a chance.

Here’s to 258 fresh starts, happy endings, and animals who are exactly where they’re meant to be. ✨

If you missed Putts for Mutts this year, you missed one for the books. ⛳🐾

We battled sunshine, rain, sunburns, and even a surprise hailstorm, and somehow it only made the day more memorable.

Golfers took their shot at our on-course games, sponsors kept the fun going with everything from cotton candy to cold beer, raffle winners walked away with amazing prizes, and one lucky golfer even conquered the Floating Shot challenge. The course was full of laughs, friendly competition, and hundreds of people coming together for a cause that matters.

A huge thank you to every golfer, volunteer, sponsor, donor, and supporter who helped make this year’s event so special. We are especially grateful to the sponsors who spent the entire day out on the course creating unforgettable experiences for our players.

Congratulations to our tournament champions, prize winners, and everyone who braved Colorado’s ever-changing weather to make the day a success.

Every year, Putts for Mutts gets bigger, better, and more memorable. After this year’s event, you’ll want to make sure you’re on the course with us next time.

Start assembling your foursome now. We’ll see you next year. 🏌️‍♂️🐶

A huge thank you to Petfinder Foundation for awarding us a 2026 Shelter Foster Support Grant! 💙

This $1,000 grant will support our Foster Care Program by helping cover costs for food, kennels, daily enrichment, transportation, and resources for the incredible foster families who open their homes to animals in need.

Because of foster care, dogs like these can thrive outside the shelter while they wait for their forever families:

🐾 Henry has settled beautifully into foster life. He loves daily walks, carrying around toys, greeting people with a wagging tail, and spending time close to his humans. His foster says he's a very good dog who has quickly adapted to a routine and enjoys being wherever his people are.
Henry just turned 2, he needs to be the only pet in the home, but is approved for children of any age.

🐾 Gary is making great progress in foster care. Walks, chew toys, and plenty of brushing help him feel his best, and he's shown just how sweet he can be. He enjoys playing fetch, knows basic commands, and loves spending time with his foster family.
Gary is 11 years old, approved for dogs, cats, and a home with children than 10 years old.

🐾 Ollie has been an absolute dream in foster. He's explored new places, met new people, handled thunderstorms like a champ, and impressed everyone with his leash manners. His foster says he's easy to love and can easily picture someone falling head over heels for him.
Ollie is 10 months old, approved for dogs, cats, and a home with high-school aged children or older.

🐾 Sid is doing great in foster and is learning that couches, cuddles, and love are pretty wonderful things. ❤️
Sid is 3 years old, approved for dogs, cats, and children older than 10.

All four of these dogs are still looking for forever homes. If you'd like to meet Henry, Gary, Ollie, or Sid, please contact [email protected] to schedule a meet-and-greet here at the shelter.

Thank you again to Petfinder Foundation for investing in our Foster Care Program and helping animals receive the individualized care they need while they wait for adoption. Every foster placement creates a better future for pets like these. 🐶🏡

FOSTER HOME FOUND! Thank you all for sharing.

Meet Luna.

Luna is a young Pocket Pittie born in September 2024 who should be spending her days snuggled up on a couch, not struggling through shelter life. Unfortunately, the stress and excitement of the shelter environment are making her existing medical conditions much harder to manage, and we need to find her a foster-to-adopt home as quickly as possible.

Luna was surrendered through no fault of her own when her family’s landlord would not allow dogs. Despite everything, she remains a sweet girl who is approved to live with children of any age.

Luna has significant medical needs related to her breathing and ability to regulate her body temperature. She requires a calm, cool environment and a family committed to helping manage her ongoing care. Our team will thoroughly discuss her medical needs with interested applicants so you can determine whether she is the right fit for your home.

What Luna needs most right now is a chance to leave the shelter and decompress in a loving home where she can be comfortable and successful.

Interested in helping Luna? Please email [email protected] to learn more. Potential foster-to-adopt homes will complete a foster application, home inspection, and meet-and-greet with this special girl.

Please share to help us find Luna the home she urgently needs. ❤️

The thing about senior dogs is that people assume they’ve already had their adventures. Then you meet one.

You meet the senior who’s “winding down” and realize they still throw themselves onto their back for belly rubs, they still follow you from room to room, and they still get excited for treats, walks, car rides, and seeing their favorite people.

You realize they aren’t done living. Not even close.

Right now, we have SEVERAL senior dogs waiting for homes:
Nina, 8 years old
Yoshi, 8 years old
Ginger, 10 years old
Peyton, 10 years old
Lilac, 10 years old
Gary, 11 years old
LB & Audio, 11 & 12 years old, bonded pair
Bailey, 12 years old
Coconut, 13 years old
and Hera, 13 years old.

If you’ve never considered adopting a senior, maybe it’s time to meet one.

Mitzy may have found her match, but Audio & LB, Ginger, Nina, Bailey, Gary, Lilac, Coconut, Yoshi, Peyton, and Hera are still waiting for theirs. ❤️
