GIVE ATTICUS A HOME! 🤩
This handsome 12-year-old, 16.3-hand off-the-track Thoroughbred is as sweet as they come. With his goofy personality, gentle demeanor, and love for people, Atticus has a way of making everyone around him smile.
In the pasture, he’s a total social butterfly. 🦋 He makes friends easily, especially with his best buddy Swift, another Thoroughbred. Together, they’ve earned the nickname “The Throughbros.” 😆
Because of physical limitations, Atticus has been retired from riding. He would thrive with someone who wants to spend quality time with him, teach him fun tricks on the ground, and shower him with the love and attention he absolutely adores.
Atticus is looking for a home where he can simply be cherished for the kind, funny, and affectionate horse he is.
Does Atticus sound like a good match for you? If so, fill out a Horse Match Profile on chr.org today!

We’re proud to share that Colorado Horse Rescue CEO Katherine Gregory has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the American Horse Council, effective June 21, 2026. 🤩
This appointment is an exciting milestone for CHR and our mission of creating a better world for horses. As the national voice of the equine industry, the American Horse Council helps shape conversations that impact horses and horse people across the country. Having equine welfare represented at that table is an important step forward.
“The American Horse Council plays an essential role as the unifying voice of the equine industry in Washington, D.C.,” said Justin Davis, Chairperson of Colorado Horse Rescue. “We have deep respect for the Council’s leadership in advocating for the health and long-term sustainability of the horse industry. Katherine’s appointment reflects both her leadership and the growing recognition of equine welfare perspectives within national industry conversations.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join a board that brings together such a breadth of expertise and perspective,” said Gregory. “The equine industry is stronger when we work toward shared goals, and I look forward to being part of that.”
Please join us in celebrating Katherine and this opportunity to help advance a better future for horses nationwide.💙🐴

HOME SWEET HOME 🩵
Lady has officially landed in her new home and is already making herself part of the family. Her adopter, Debby, shared that she’s “happy, gradually relaxing, friendly and cooperative,” and becoming more comfortable with each passing day.
She’s enjoying her new surroundings, settling into a routine, and building a friendship with her pasture companion, Gladstone. According to Debby, “She and Gladstone are getting along well,” and the two are quickly becoming friends. 🫶🏻
And one exciting change? Lady has a new name. 🤩 After spending time getting to know her personality, her adopter has decided to use her registered name, Little Isabella, with nicknames like Little and Little Bella.
“Thank you so much for helping me find this lovely horse,” Debby wrote. 🤍
Messages like this are what rescue is all about: horses finding the right people, the right homes, and the opportunity to simply be horses. Wishing Little Bella and her family many happy years together!

Megan Berner and Grace Johnson of Colorado Horse Rescue had the privilege of attending the American Horse Publications Equine Media Conference in Lexington, Kentucky. 🐴🤩
The conference brought together journalists, photographers, marketers, nonprofit leaders, and professionals from across the equine industry, creating a dynamic environment for collaboration and the exchange of ideas. It was a powerful reminder of the passion that drives the horse world and the role thoughtful storytelling plays in informing, inspiring, and connecting the equine community.
CHR was honored to receive 2nd place in the nonprofit video category for Forging a Future Where Hope Lives, the short film created for last year’s gala. While the award recognizes the storytelling and craftsmanship behind the film, the real honor is celebrating the community that powers our mission: volunteers, adopters, donors, and supporters whose commitment creates brighter futures for horses. 💙
Congratulations to The Foundation for the Horse on its well deserved first place award for the video created for the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) conference, and for the important work the organization continues to do on behalf of horses everywhere. 👏
The experience sparked new ideas, meaningful connections, and a renewed appreciation for the people and organizations shaping the future of the equine industry. Thank you to American Horse Publications for creating a space that celebrates collaboration and the people dedicated to advancing equine media.

🎶 “I’m gonna love you forever and ever…” 🎶
And we think Elroy deserves a home that will do exactly that. 🩵
After spending years as a guest ranch horse at C Lazy U Ranch , Elroy is now enjoying a well deserved retirement at Colorado Horse Rescue. We are so grateful to C Lazy U Ranch for partnering with us through The Annie Project and helping provide horses like Elroy with a safe path into their next chapter.
These days, Elroy spends his time soaking up sunny naps, enjoying turnout with his gelding herd, and frolicking with his horse friends on brisk mornings. His kind and easygoing personality make him a wonderful companion horse for another horse looking for a buddy.

For the Love of Seniors
A Peaceful Final Chapter 💙
Caring for senior horses is about so much more than extra feedings and special care plans. It’s about giving them comfort, dignity, companionship, and the chance to truly feel safe again.
In this heartfelt new blog, Dana Willett, CHR’s previous Volunteer Manager, shares how fostering one elderly mare named Harmony completely changed the course of her life. What began as a temporary foster experience soon became a calling to care for senior rescue horses through their golden years and final chapters.
Through Harmony and the many horses (and one donkey 🫏) who followed, Dana learned firsthand about the unique needs of aging equines, from managing PPID (Cushing’s Disease) and dental challenges to recognizing quality of life and making compassionate end-of-life decisions. But above all, she discovered how deeply these horses can flourish when given patience, individualized care, and love.
If you’ve ever considered fostering, cared for a senior horse of your own, or simply want to better understand the needs of aging horses, we hope you’ll take a moment to read this special story by visiting the link: CHR.org/senior-horses 🫶🏻

MEET SWEET LUNA! 🤍
Luna is growing up right before our eyes, and this smart, spirited filly is already showing so much promise.
From groundwork and grooming to tying, obstacles, and moving off of pressure, Luna continues to impress us with her curiosity and willingness to learn. She’s confident, independent, and incredibly quick to pick things up, all qualities that will make her an exciting partner for the right person.
Like any young horse, Luna is still learning boundaries and emotional regulation, but she approaches each new challenge with bravery and a level head. Watching her grow has been so rewarding, and we truly believe the sky is the limit for this special mare.
Because of her age and potential, Luna is available only to an Advanced or Trainer-level adopter with experience starting young horses.
If you’re looking for a talented young horse to help shape and grow with, Luna may be perfect for you! 🤩 Please fill out a Horse Match Profile on chr.org.
During this ASPCA Adopt a Horse Month, we will be highlighting more available horses at CHR that are looking for their forever home. Keep an eye out for your perfect match!
