Want to keep wall damage to a minimum when hanging pictures? There are "tack" tools on the market designed especially for wall art. They install sturdy hardware similar to paper staples. These staples cause very little cosmetic damage and are easy to remove.
Using a high quality mat board is essential to protecting your artwork. Mat board that is not rated as Conservation Quality will allow the mat to discolor and possibly damage your artwork over time.
It’s recommended that you periodically remove your art or photographs and clean your picture frames. However, make sure that you don’t put the picture back until the glass is completely dry, and the moisture can cause it to stick and end up damaging it.
If you have a piece of artwork that features a stunning array of colors and brushwork, you may find that trying to fit it into a basic black frame simply doesn’t do it justice. Let’s talk about the look you’re trying to achieve so that we can help you find the best frame for the art.
When a piece of artwork is framed with archival quality framing, it means more than just slapping a frame around the piece. Every step done in archival framing cannot harm the artwork in any way, and has to be fully reversible without damaging the artwork.
With the hundreds of different frame options out there, it’s easy to get lost. Frame experts have framed hundreds, even thousands of pictures, and can bring all of the experience to the table to help you find the perfect frame for your artwork.
Do you have artwork that is either from or evokes a certain location? A framing expert can help you find the perfect frame, such as bamboo-style for Asian art, or olive-wood moldings for that picture of the Tuscan countryside.
Do you ever worry that the subject of your picture is too near the bottom? In order to draw the eye up, use a mat that's thicker at the bottom than it is on the sides and top.
By switching to strap hangers rather than screw eyes when hanging your framed piece, you can have your frame flush to the wall rather than leaning out more than it needs to.
Have you ever had a picture buckle after being framed? One of the main reasons for this is that the image, mat, and mount board all expand and contract at different rates with temperature change. One way to avoid this is to mount the photo with photo corners.
