Cross collaboration for the well being of a woman experiencing a behavioral health crisis. WTG Long Beach first responders!
While you were sleeping at midnight😴, Marine Patrol Officer Joe (pictured here) was patrolling the Belmont Pier when a concerned citizen believed a distraught woman was in danger. The female was standing alone at the end of the pier on the outside of the safety railing.
Believing the female may be contemplating su***de by jumping into the ocean below, Marine Patrol Officer Joe quickly made contact with the female adult and assisted her back over the railing to safety.
Officer Marshall and field training Officer Sidders (pictures here) arrived on scene and began building a rapport with the woman.
During the course of the conversation, Officer Olea and Field Training Officer Do were able to gather enough information about the woman to discover she was reported as a missing person with a history of mental health concerns.
Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene with an ambulance and gurney. Officer Marshall convinced the suicidal and visibly scared woman to hold his hand in an effort to comfort and reassure her while he escorted her into the gurney and into the ambulance.
transported the woman to a local hospital where she was placed on a mental evaluation hold in order to get the help she needed before reuniting with her caregivers.
This teamwork and professionalism helped a woman in severe emotional and mental distress and truly exemplifies our mission of “Public Safety Through Partnerships.” 👮♂️👨🚒👮♂️👨🚒 Long Beach Police Officers Association

Examining the Relationship Between High Performing PFE Hospitals and Quality and Safety Performance

Patients and families are key to a more holistic approach to improving clinical outcomes. Health care organizations that have formed partnerships with patients and families as part of their quality and safety improvement efforts are reaping the rewards of those partnerships. The report, “Examining the Relationship Between High-performing Person and Family Engagement Hospitals and Quality and Safety Performance,” analyzes how high-performing hospitals and health systems are leveraging and deploying person/patient and family engagement (PFE) in outcomes improvement. After conducting an analysis of quantitative outcomes data and qualitative data collected through participant interviews and organizational site visits, findings demonstrate a correlation between implementation of PFE and improvements in clinical outcomes.
This analysis was conducted by Vizient as part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Hospital Improvement and Innovation Network (HIIN) – a national quality improvement program created to reduce harm that occurs as a result of a patient’s interaction with the healthcare delivery system. Patient and family engagement has long been realized as a major change accelerator for the HIIN program.
The major finding and strength of this analysis is the above-average statistical correlation demonstrated between PFE and improvements in patient safety outcomes, specifically in reduced rates of 30-day unplanned readmissions and falls with injury. Few studies have developed scientific evidence that supports the influence of PFE activities on outcomes improvements. The specific PFE activities that were found to most influence outcomes will be presented as well.

Join us TODAY, April 26th at 12pm PST for our monthly free workshop.
Okay, I have a Patient Family Advisory Council.
Now What?
Hospitals, health systems, quality improvement organizations and many others are developing Patient Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) or programs as an active strategy to improve the safety, quality and experience of care. As these efforts mature, healthcare professionals are finding themselves in the new position of serving as Facilitator of advisory efforts, however very little training has been offered on how to successfully facilitate these new partnerships. During this Workshop PFCCpartners staff will share real world scenarios of PFAC Facilitation challenges and practical strategies for overcoming them. We invite you to submit a brief description of your challenge in facilitating interactions with your advisors to [email protected]. Selected challenges will be addressed by PFCCpartners staff during this interactive session.
