There is a lot of important information in this article. Here are a few of my takeaways:

-Your homeowner's insurance does not have coverage for flood.

-The FEMA flood maps are out of date and don't account for heavy rainfall.

- 1/3 of the flood claims happen outside of "high-risk" flood zones.

Not mentioned in the article but important: If you want to buy flood insurance, there is normally a 30-day wait so it is important to buy it before you hear on the news that there will be a big storm that can cause flooding.

Flooding Is Getting Worse—and Fewer Homeowners Have Insurance Swaths of the U.S. that have never flooded before are now in danger of being swamped, but the risk isn’t covered by standard home-insurance policies.
