Why We Need Your Help:
• The Los Angeles and the San Gabriel rivers empty trash from surrounding areas into the waters
of Long Beach. Tons of pounds of trash collect inside the breakwater and drift back up on to the beach.
• After a storm, the city uses bulldozers to pick up the trash and hauls it away, but small pieces are left
behind which are only collectable by hand.
• Trash on the beach can be harmful to the health and safety of beach users and marine wildlife.
• Beachgoers can cut themselves on glass and metal left on the beach. Plastics take hundreds of years to breakdown and can trap and kill animals.
