Residential water pressure tends to range between 45 and 80 psi (pounds per square inch). Anything below 40 psi is considered low, and anything below 30 psi is considered too low. Pressures above 80 psi are too high.

A white powdery substance on the surface of a concrete foundation or other masonry material typically indicates an elevated amount of moisture is or has been present. The powder is called efflorescence and is made up of salts and minerals.

Limiting your water heaters temperature to no more than 130 degrees can prevent burn injuries from hot water, especially for kids. Exposure to 140 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures for 3 seconds can cause a 2nd-degree burn, and 5 seconds could cause a 3rd-degree burn. To keep the water sanitary, it’s best to not go below 120 degrees Fahrenheit

Not all homes were built with sewer cleanouts. They weren’t required until the 1980s. Depending on the age of your home, you may have a cleanout installed in your front lawn, garage floor, interior, or even crawlspace. Cleanouts are used to provide access to the plumbing system to clear clogs and perform maintenance.

Even the most well-intended flippers make mistakes; take this water heater’s missing exhaust flue, for example. Always get an inspection when purchasing a home.

Maintaining your home's exterior envelope by sealing all gaps is the first step in preventing rodent and pest infestation. Gaps usually occur where two surfaces meet or around roof and wall penetrations.
