At the Heart of the Deepest Blue
By Corey Fox
I’ve always wondered what it’s like to sail the seven seas;
to drift, on the great abyss, in my boat singing, “c’est la vie.”
I’d visit the oil rigs, as I weave between metal beams,
and bask in the open air, as I wait for a gentle breeze.
I’d wander among the squalls, and then gaze at the rising moon;
find comfort and solitude, on my own little island cruise.
I’d graciously tip my hat to the ‘Old Man and the Sea,’
then wave, as I say “goodbye,” to Poseidon—it’s bittersweet!
This feels like a vivid dream, will I find what I’m looking for?
Harmony with the natural world—inner peace that I’m pushing towards?
Oh, how wonderous it would be as I row with two wooden oars;
drop anchor, then take a plunge, on my way to the ocean floor!
I’d descend, beneath the waves, until light is out of my reaches,
then float, like in outer space, ‘til I’m miles from crowded beaches.
I’d follow the current down, ‘til I’m close to the planet’s core,
then race turtles and giant squids ‘til my stamina’s ran its course.
I’d croon with a pod of whales, and surf on tectonic plates,
then I’d cruise through the coral reefs ‘cause it’s quite the exotic place!
Play ball with a school of dolphins, turn triteness to special moments,
then swim by a herd of sharks, they’re so nice when you get to know them!
I’d walk the streets of Atlantis, and skip on the cobblestone,
then admire ruins with Neptune, and sit on his marble throne.
I’m searching for all the knowledge that lies in the lunar tides;
revealing secrets of the deep, with new friends while we scuba dive.
I’d cruise the abyssal plain; scour trenches in Mariana,
then sneak like a scaredy-cat by a deadly pack of piranhas.
I'd travel to famous wrecks, be awestruck with a sudden glimpse;
to spelunk through a sunken ship’s, at the top of my bucket list!
If I could stay down here forever, I’d float to my hearts content.
Be one with the bounding main, ‘till I soften the sharpest edge.
Although sadly, whatever’s good, will eventually come to end,
and the time has arrived to say, “farewell,” to my charming friends.
Not bye, but it’s ‘see ya later,’ and not for a lack of courage.
I’m never lost if I can follow the bubbles back to the surface.
And there’s an ocean of possibilities down in my paradise…
at the heart of the deepest blue under blankets of starry nights.

My Happy Place
By: Corey Fox
Whenever I’m feeling sad, out of place, or misunderstood,
I use my imagination to guide me out of the woods.
I’ll drift away from the fog, and the shadows of my regrets,
so I can rise above the smog and see views that are picturesque.
I’ll leave it all behind, in my mind, for greener pastures;
to take a deeper breath and maybe… start a new chapter.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed, then I’ll try to harness my power,
while I overcome the heartache and rise from my darkest hour.
Then suddenly, I take flight on a magical stratus cloud,
flying next to a flock of birds, as I search for the castle grounds.
When up high, I see in the distance, a kingdom with massive gates;
a dreamland that looks familiar, I’m back at my Happy Place.
While making my grand arrival, my soul is emitting sparks;
being here is like skipping rocks, as I sit on the fishing docks.
When I’m pulling up to the slip, I so festively disembark,
as I wander up to the gates, with empathy in my heart.
Open sesame’s what I’ll say, then I’m in on my own accord.
I don’t have to pay admission, to wander the great outdoors.
I prefer to drift away for a moment and be at ease;
to gather myself in secret and wander my sweetest dreams.
‘Cause up here, I see all the things that help me to be at peace,
like all the people that I love, amongst valleys and mountain peaks.
I visit when I’m afraid, it gives me a nice distraction,
which helps me to keep control without emotional reactions.
My grandparents are waiting here, to fill me with words of wisdom.
They help me to reboot my brain’s operating system.
Down there, they both have passed… but up here, they both keep me grounded!
They say the right words to keep my judgement from getting clouded.
My grandmother’s tending gardens, while my grandfather reads the paper.
It’s great to come and embrace them, I hope that I’ll see them later!
There are others here I make time for, they wait for me in the winds,
like my dog who went to the farm, and now look at his pair of wings!
I came to my inner oasis, defeated from my frustrations,
but all the warmth and familiar faces, they helped me to find my patience.
They’ve helped me to clear my conscience, the negativity’s gone.
I’m ready to react without irritability, calm.
And so, I tell them goodbye, running back along through the fields;
I run past my grandparents’ house as they wave to me, how surreal.
I dance happily while my dog’s flying circles around me, healed;
I run back to the massive gates and return to my cloud mobile.
I’m finally feeling tranquil, as I return to the planet’s surface;
this mending was for a purpose, my headspace has been refurbished.
I’m leaving my Happy Place for now, but it’s not forever.
I’m headed to whence I came, to tackle my next adventure!
