Rick “Crime” (K2S) is Los Angeles first writer to adopt a true hip-hop–New York influenced graffiti style. His transition from gang culture into graffiti reflects a broader shift that happened in L.A. during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when tagging started evolving from territorial markings into a style-driven art form connected to emerging hip-hop culture.
Before social media platforms took over, graffiti culture lived through print. Can Control, created by Powar, was the first full-color graffiti magazine — giving writers a way to share their work worldwide.
Before Instagram, before hashtags, before algorithms… there was 50mm Los Angeles. A raw digital wall where writers tapped in, dropped flicks. No filters—just style, reputation, and respect.
Ran by Unit, it gave graffiti writers a space to connect, showcase work, and build name recognition worldwide—way before social media made it easy.
