Today we recognize the significance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, or Juneteenth Independence. In addition to celebrating the end of slavery, Juneteenth also honors African American contributions and achievements. We take time, not just today, but every day, to recognize the unwavering strength of the African American community. We also take this moment to renew our commitment to fighting for justice for all members of our school communities.
