On April 26, 1777, sixteen-year-old Sybil Ludington rode through the countryside to muster the militia for her father, Henry Ludington, a colonel in the American militia.
Colonel Ludington had received word that the British were on their way to Danbury, Connecticut, where the militia had stored their munitions. Sybil alerted American colonists to gather at her father's house to oppose the British.
What an amazing feat for a teenage girl to do! She is one of the young women in my middle-grade book, Spies, Soldiers, Couriers, and Saboteurs: Women of the American Revolution.

Sometimes it's fun to add an item to a young one's Easter basket besides candy. A colorful picture book is a fun addition that you can share with that special little one! Read the story together and enjoy the delightful illustrations!
And the Cow Jumped Over the Moon showcases how Cow's animal friends encouraged and supported her to achieve her goal of jumping over the moon! Quite the feat!
An added bonus is that the illustrator, Jayden Ellsworth, included a little bat on each of the spreads -- can you find it??

We're coming to the end of March -- Women's History Month.
My middle-grade book, Spies, Soldiers, Couriers, and Saboteurs: Women of the American Revolution, highlights little-known women who showed immense courage in helping the Patriots defeat the British.
Anna Maria Lane and Deborah Samson both fought on the battlefield. Emily Geiger rode through British occupied territory to carry a message to General Thomas Sumter from General Nathanael Greene. Grace and Rachel Martin, dressed as highwaymen, intercepted a British courier and stole his dispatch.
I'm thrilled to share their stories!

I hope you'll end the week by sharing one or two favorite picture books with little ones! Kids love reading with others!
